Once the tick is gone then go with the MoS2.

I am a believer in MMO in that it slowly cleans sludge without harming the additive pack all too much, and also because it lowers the viscosity... but since the ol' explorer has over 175k I really would rather not thin down the viscosity, and besides that, I just have a hunch (go ahead, make some noise about that, haha) that Rislone or Moly would take away that ticking better than MMO. I think I'll try Rislone, since it's cheaper and since you want to know the effect, Trav. Thanks everyone for the input...
BTW to those who did want to know how Rislone [will] work[ed], you'll be waiting a while because I ain't changing the oil in that thing 'til much later in the spring. It's too cold, and she (my mom) is currently driving a different vehicle anyways.

First off the solvents in the mmo will flash off pretty quickly so the sump load of oil won't be thinned out for long.
Moly or mos2 is a friction modifier,rislone may contain some zddp,it used to anyways.
I've used rislone. Its a solvent carrier for sure,so like mmo its gonna clean until the solvents flash off.
Mos2 is a totally different animal. It layers itself on the moving metal parts and the pressure of this movement works the mos2 into the metals inconsistencies.
Then once the layers are applied the mos2 coated parts stop the actual metals from touching,decreasing wear. Mos2 is also slick which decreases drag or parasitic loss.
I'd do the flush clean out first then add mos2/moly.
