My gf's 96 explorer has the ohv 4.0 in it and has 100,000miles on it. She bought it with 93,000miles on it and I changed oil 4,000miles ago with q.s. green bottle. My next change will be with valv. maxlife 5w30. My question is, I'd like to clean it out good, but she does mainly short trips, so I don't know if it would get driven hard enough for AutoRX to work. Could I maybe try some Rotella T syn. along with maybe a quart of MMO to clean it out good? If so, how long do I run it? I figured the RTS would be ok for use in the warmer summer months, what do you guys think?

That sounds like a plan, the new Rotella T6 5w40 is said to be thinner add to that the quart of MMO it should be thin enough for winter even in the Ford. I would cut open the filter at 1000 miles just to make sure there is no sludge. If it looks OK then run the oil for a 5000 mile OCI. If it looks like a mess dump it at 3000 miles.

Yup, our 07 Mustang 4.0 is specced for 5w30. One of the only engines they don't have specced for 5W-20, so there must be a reason for it.

Using pp will work toclean out the crud. Or use amsoil engine flush at time of oil change. I used the flush on my brothers 00 exploerer and it got a lot of [censored] out.

Your 96 Ford will be fine with the Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30. Not sure where you can fine Mobil 1 5w30 High Mileage. Maybe call Mobil tech.

A pint of MMO added to the oil 1000 miles before you change it will help clean things up. Then when you change the oil you can use either a qt or a pint of MMO and run it the full OCI. Just don't over fill it.

I also believe in doing that too, and now that winter is here I run a whole quart in the oil

Outstanding! One of my Bitog buddies has been doing that for years and years, seems a lot of us are doing that. The plus is easier cold starts along with a clean engine, not bad for under 5 bucks a qt!
