Is there a FREE program out there that will rip wav tracks from a concert DVD? Everything I've found is pay only.

I think DVD Decrypter can rip a DVD and then split out just the audio track. Then you will need some other free tool (like Foobar2000) to convert it from AC3 to regular 2-channel .wav if you want to be able to burn it on a standard CD.

I know I've done this in the past, but can't remember exactly how - the original audio was on DVD in DTS format.

Use a stereo line out connection from your receiver/TV to a line-in on your computer. Then just record it with many of the available MP3 OGG WAV recorders that are free. Sure, you have to manually adjust track names & times, but it's free, too.

This sounds good to me. I'll give it a shot tonight.

Thanks for your help, fellas.

How is that different than ripping/burning a copy of a CD that I own?

You guys love your DMCA flavored Kool-Aid.

There is an open-source program called Audacity that will record the sounds going to your sound card. It will probably have a better quality of recording than the line-in.

How can it have better quality than the line-in? What do you think Audacity uses to capture the sound if not the same line-in?

Line in involves an external playback mechanism, cables and connections. Audacity is internal and thus less chances of external interference. And notice that I said 'probably' and not 'definitely'.

Oh, I think I see what you're saying. You mean capturing the audio being played back by the sound card (like when playing the DVD back on your PC), correct?

Yes, Audacity captures the signal going to your sound card. It can be DVD playing, streaming audio on the net, etc.
