Godspeed Captain Lovell!
He had a cameo appearance in the movie Apollo 13 as the Captain of the USS Iwo Jima.
A true American hero. He didn't get to walk on the moon, but he lived to the ripe old age of 97. God speed, Commander!

He was a cool head under pressure, that’s for sure. Sadly there are very few of the Apollo astronauts remaining. When I was a kid there were few people I looked up to more than those guys.
The Apollo astronauts are dying off. Soon they'll all be gone. Of the 12 men who walked on the Moon, there are only 4 left. Buzz Aldrin, Charles Duke, Harrison Schmitt, and Dave Scott. And they are all well into their 80's, and some are in their 90's.
A genuine hero. An admirable man.
