So true! When I first started using synthetic oil back in 1988, I paid $8 per liter for Mobil 1 at the Esso gas stations. Castrol XLR was only $1 per liter at the time. So needless to say, not many people wanted to pay 8x the price for synthetic oil back then!

I've been getting mine from walmart for a while now. Just under $15 for the Quaker State High Mileage and under $21 for the Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

Motor oil prices are ridiculous.
I've gotten nine jugs of synthetics in three brands FAR this summer.
Those are ridiculous prices.

I doubt it, as long as the central banks increase the money in circulation, prices of almost everything rise.

I doubt it also since conventional costs more to make now.

however its 12.75 right now at walmart and they have 10$ rebate.

I usually just oil hoard off sales and make sure I fill out the rebate within 1-2 days to make sure its sent in.

I've had fairly good luck with rebates on oil.
about 25 out of 27 I got.

I have 50qts this year of syn for about 55$ after rebates.

I did pay 3.69EA for 25qts of napa and o'reillys syn because my stash was empty.

I just bought the last 3 gallons of Shell 10w30 HDEO on sale at our local Advance Auto @ $12/gal.
2 weeks ago, I picked up 10 gallons of Delo 400 @ $11/gal at Autozone. That sale is now over so price is $16/gal now.

Shell Rotella T3 is $11 a gallon in bulk from the distributor ($2.75 Qt).

Still looked pretty good after 22,500 miles (Would have went 30k easily) and I wouldnt be afraid to use it in a gasser. They make in 10W30 if you need something lighter.

As of tonight, $19.47 for a 5 quart bottle of MaxLife at Wal*Mart. The same bottle at O'rilley auto parts is $28.99.

Castrol GTX is $15.47 for regular and 18.50 for GTX-HM at Wal*Mart.

Oil prices will continue to go up. That is pretty much a fact. I will keep hunting deals and clearances... that's guaranteed!!

Kinda like the 15 jugs of Mobil Clean 5000 10w40 I got for $4.99 each today. (5qt jugs, not single qts!) They were on clearance for $9.99. I found the manager and told him if he'd take $4.99 each I'd clear him out. He looked at the floor... looked at the front door, looked back at the floor, then looked at me and said "Ok." Done deal.

Just exchanged 3 5-qt jugs Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 for Mobil 1 0W20 at a local Walmart in Laguna Hills in So Cal. I lost the receipt of the PP I bought last year, they credited $24.97 for a PP jug and the price of Mobil 1 is $25.82, the difference plus tax is $2.75 for 3 jugs. $5/qt PP and $5.16/qt Mobil 1 is not too bad for synthetic oil. While I was there I checked the price of PU, it is $27.xx 5-qt jug.

That is a good deal, but only if you actually need that oil! What do you have that would need a 10w40? I wouldn't run that viscosity in either of the vehicles in your sig line.

You're right, I don't use 10-40 in my personal cars. I do, however, take of cars for friends, family, and neighbors. Some them have older vehicles and prefer 10-40. It'll take me a few years, but I'll use it all up.

27.97 for 5 qts of Ultra today at Walmart. Good thing I've got a $25 rebate. Seems like the only oil that hasn't gone up since the beginning of the summer was NextGen. Everything else had gone up by about a $1.

Well i consider myself a smart oil shopper like alot of other people on this website.
3 jugs of G - Oil - Free after rebate

10 quarts of Mobil 1 - On sale at tractor supply at the moment 2.99 a quart.

5 quarts of ultra - approx. 4$ after rebate.

Not to bad IMO....

Many on this thread have suggested Wal-Mart and some other large stores. I hate buying anything at Walmart. I found today, at the locally owned auto parts store Kendall synthetic blend 5w-20 for $3.89 per quart. (I bought all 9 of them to change the oil in both my cars) And they carry quality Wix filters. While the oil price might be beaten by a few cents per quart, the value in supporting a locally owned busines far surpasses it.

Where have you been?
There have been MIR deals all summer on various oils.
Plenty of free, or nearly free after MIR synthetic.
The key to saving money on oil is to maintain at least a modest stash.
It fills with oil at a deal, and it empties when prices are high.
I am with you on the price, though.
I would be loathe to pay five bucks a quart for oil.
Also, Wally is usually cheaper than AAP for regular price oil.
