Is this $2 generic SuperTech Walmart oil safe?

Sure beats some of the el cheapo oil some gas stations carry. Some of those you have to be careful with. WM doesn't sell krapola oil.

Lots of threads here on ST motor oil.
Nothing wrong with it at all.
If you want to use store brand oil of a current API spec, there are better deals out there, though.

Well, for brand named stuff, I'd start with anything that says RCA or Kodak or Purolator. And, I'm not fond of the orange can, either. Their house brand of clothes is terrible, to the point that I could do better myself with a needle and thread and a burlap sack. Fruit of the Loom has gone downhill hard and fast over the last few years, too. Most of their computer sections are filled with absolute junk - look at the printer aisle for virtually 100% junk coverage. The oil additive and gas additive aisle is filled with junk, but in fairness to Walmart, that applies almost everywhere. And, I haven't even gotten into the generic Chinese import junk we see all over the place in these stores, such as clocks, bedding, basic electronics and hardware, tools, and outdoor power equipment. That's not even addressing the abominations that are the toy and stationery aisles. Half of the grocery section is an absolute writeoff. If it's not one of the packaged staple items, I wouldn't touch it. Walmart is the last place I'd buy meat or vegetables, unless said meat and vegetables are canned.

I could fill a cart with absolute junk at Walmart with hardly any effort at all, and with a high degree of certainty.

The same could be said for 99% of other stores as well.

I do want to know what the deal is with the bottom shelf $2/qt generic brand.
Is it same spec and “no frills”, or actually [censored] oil ?

So what do you consider "Un-Generic" oil?

Certainly, but Walmart excels at it, and I could probably fill that cart as prescribed blindfolded. Canadian Tire isn't far behind up here, but I avoid shopping at both those places when I can avoid it, for very good reasons. I like tshirts that can withstand more than 10 washings. I like shoes that will last longer than three months. I expect a printer to cost more and have more workmanship to it than the ream of the paper being fed into it. I don't want a plastic bedroom mirror with all the optical integrity of a funhouse mirror. I don't want fishing lures that look like they were made in a grade two art class. I'm not interested in their total indifference to ammunition choice. I have no use for a clock whose face is made from cardboard.

I agree with all of this. Wal Mart is a [censored] show. 0 quality

Yet almost all of you buy your oil there and nearly condemn anyone who doesn't. Talk about double standards.

As far as Supertech, it's made by Warren Performance Products in my neck of the woods, and if I couldn't get Quaker State, I'd probably use Supertech, as Warren is no slouch as an oil company. They make a lot of auto parts store brands here, and their products are top notch.

Yes, it is safe oil - it's API SN. If you feel better about it, go ahead and buy a big name brand but it's all just really marketing my friend.

In all of my UOAs I've done on my car I've found that oil brand does not matter in terms of results. Folks have run SuperTech Conventional oil out to 15k miles and it performs just as well as the big names.

FYI, the quart bottles you posted are Warren oil which has been in business since 1922.

Really? Cant remember the last time I stepped foot in a WalMart.

They sell a lot of useless junk...but their oil is fine.

Personally, I have no problems with people buying oil (or anything, for that matter) at Walmart, particularly if they're happy with the price. There were, however, at least two assertions in this thread that Walmart doesn't sell junk. Clearly, they do, and a lot of it. Walmart isn't a Gucci outlet. It isn't even Hudson's Bay - not even close.

Lots of people buy oil at Walmart, and that's fine; Walmart sells very good motor oil, too. To say that Walmart doesn't sell garbage, though, is a major stretch.

Exactly. Funny thing is - I was thinking about this the last time I was there picking up my latest stash of oil; that is how junky some of their stuff is. I was thinking specifically of their "furniture" and household goods and some if not most of their electronics. Is it any different from what Target, Kmart or many others sell? No! But that's not the point. The point here is, someone made the remark that Walmart didn't sell junk. Maybe they meant as far as oil goes. IDK.

But I will say, I pretty much buy only oil there. If that makes me a hypocrite then so be it!

I can't say I never set foot in the place or wouldn't consider it a good place to buy certain things. Up here, though, they do not compete was well as they do in the U.S. They did, until our lazier retailers died off, and now they don't have to work so hard. It's a great place to buy alkaline batteries if I buy a bunch, for instance. Regular priced oil - not a chance.

They've begun to adopt two additional strategies with their oil pricing that have turned me off to the point I haven't bought there since I stocked up after getting the G37. They've adopted Canadian Tire's annoying habit of stocking as little on special product as possible. They're not quite as bad as Canadian Tire used to be (i.e. at one time at CT, if you didn't show up Friday morning shortly after opening, you were out of luck; ironically, they've improved massively in that regard), but they're pushing it. And now, they rarely advertise the oil special in their circular, and finding anything useful about pricing and availability on the Canadian website is hit and miss. Also, like Canadian Tire, if oil is on special, and it can be found on the website, you can't buy it online, or even pay for it and pick it up later. That's reserved for regularly priced oil, and not always even that. I can get Amsoil or Royal Purple delivered to my front door for less than that.
