Reuseable Mobil 1 oil?

I had Mobil 1 10-30 in a stored 97' Chevy PU for two years. It ran for 20 minuets once a month, at 1500-2000 RPM's (to allow warm up enough to drive off fuel & moisture in oil). Drained it last week.

So, with about 10 hours or so on this Mobil 1, could I reuse it in an older riding lawnmower? Somewhat darker (medium)color, but otherwise looks and feels OK. Worth a reuse? Opinions? Thanks.

I'd worry about fuel dilution, 20 minutes of free spinning might just dilute more than it burns off. For the mower, shouldnt be a big deal at all, though.

in the future, you dont need to run it monthly. can cause more harm than good. use stabil in the fuel, and maybe drive it every 6 months.

Much debate went into this topic (on this board as well as others), and the consensus was that monthly starting was good if and only if temp was allowed to reach normal "hot" level. I ran at 1500-2000 RPM's, to simulate driving as much as possible. Also, 97' has EFI, not carburation, so that helps tremendously as far as dilution is concerned. Stabil was used, too.

Although I respected all opinions, I chose to start monthly. Seems to have worked perfectly, so far.

In any case, I am thinking of using this Mobil 1 as lawnmower oil. Ideas welcome.

Fuel dilution doesn't have to be an issue. I have a friend who drives a funnycar and they drain the synthetic oil and boil it on a little double burner stove and dumpt it right back in the Hemi. They do let it cool a bit first.

If I drain this M1 into a clean container, and may be do a little filter with coffee filter, then I may use it in a beater car such as my '94 LS400. If I have a lawnmower, I would use this M1 in it.

Yes, I am filtering it now. Not seeing any particulate straining out, though. I guess thats a good sign. I am assuming this Mobil 1 should still have some level of additives present, enough for a old lawnmower, anyway.

I just purchased a new push lawnmower. After reading the manual it stated I could use a 5w30 full synthetic. I had a quart of M1 5w30 lying around so I added that to the beast. I swear I have never owned a mower that ran so smooth. Thus, if your owner’s manual says you can use synthetic oil, I would definitely recommend M1.

My concern would be that relying solely upon the coolant temp indication is absolutely no guaranty that the oil temp got hot enough to boil off excess water, fuel, or both. We've had several members who are equipped with coolant and oil temp gauges who report (as I've understood to be the case) that the oil temp rise usually lags substantially behind the coolant temp.

You're probably just fine using that M1 in a mower. If you really want to get beyond simply tabulating the opinions of the members of various boards, do a one-time UOA. I'd even pony up the extra $10 or so for a TBN. Armed with this information, you'd know if your plan for caring for the truck is viable, AND whether that old oil will be good for your yard equipment.

I'm not getting this logic with using used oil at all.

Good thoughts. To clarify though, the storage is over. I am driving the truck down I-10 100 miles daily. I see no ill effects whatsoever from the starting plan I had. Even if there was some fuel dilution, the Mobil 1 should have basically held up.

Don't be disparaging the lowly lawn mower! I like both of my mowers they have gotten new fresh Walmart 5-30 since new. for the small amount of money it costs, show it some love and give it some, walmart, napa, pep boys, sears at like a couple bucks and people will stop talking behind your back. Ya know what I mean?

I could not afford Amsoil in my cars, and you use it in a lowly mower ?

The most expensive oil that my cars got was M1 that I got with B1G1, the other oils were mostly $99/qt and/or $49/qt after rebates.

I have an older mower, that I would have no problem using that oil in, as long as it was drained into a clean container, then filtered. If it was a new mower, I'd have my doubts.

I use ACD 30w and a P1 oil filter @ 100hrs, i bought up two 1 gal jugs of it and it takes me around 2-3 seasons to put 100hrs on so you can see a gal will last a long time for me,dont have to buy it that often, the price is worth it for a great performing oil with a good slug of additives(Zinc)and can take the punishing heat.

i've also use M1 10w30 too,works great.
