Stick with whatever brand/grade that it requires

For oil consumption, top off with a 15w50

Why not try some HPL Premium (or Plus if you are in a really really cold climate)? Or you can start slow and go with the EC30 then move to a full change with HPL and see if the consumption continues. If it doesn't, you are only out the premium price of the HPL and not some crazy expensive price.
