We don't eat out much, but here's what I do for table service. Subtotal - beverages + 15%, if service is above average, 20%.

The only time I was scammed by a restaurant was in San Francisco when the bill had itemized surcharges for health insurance, union dues, and 1 or 2 more stupid things. Definitely did not eat there again.
You should have deducted your expense of getting there, the taxes on your wages that paid the tab, the cost of your clothes to dine there and a general 10% OH expense
