Replacing a fridge

My Kenmore model 253.xxxxxxxx, which looks exactly like Supton's link is not made by Frigidaire??

http://appliancementor.weebly.com/blog/category/kenmore, http://www.appliance411.com/purchase/sears.shtml, and a dozen more.

"How to know who makes what? The key to know who makes each appliance is to look at the model number. For Kenmore products, the first three digits of the model number tell you who made that appliance. Frigidaire/Electrolux: Model Number format: 253.XXXXXX Manufactured in USA or Mexico"

Good grief, are all of my links and pictures a lie? Have I presented enough evidence?

Is it possible this link is correct?: http://www.reviewed.com/home-outdoors/features/ask-the-experts-who-makes-kenmore

"Refrigerators: Here’s where it gets tricky. Most top-freezer Kenmore fridges are made by Electrolux, and are similar to Frigidaire models. Most side-by-side and some inexpensive French door models are made by Whirlpool, while nearly all high-end French door and some side-by-side models are made by LG."

Well, wife insisted, so we bought it. We looked at the other models, just 'cuz we were there; but in the end, this is what she wanted. She has a bit of buyers remorse going on: got home, set it up, and realized the crisper drawers are compromised--taller but not as long. She did see that she lost the meat drawer but was fine with that (and I hated that drawer anyhow).

Can't win...

I had been leaning towards one that was $650 and would have fit the cabinetry better, but this was cheaper (and turns out we had some Sears points). Oh well. It's plugged in and doing its thing now.

Took about 10 minutes to slide off my trailer and into the house; just barely got through the front door. Says 195lb but I swear, it wasn't that heavy; moving couches is much harder. I did break down and buy a $55 dolly for the task. Just have to move stuff over and take the old one to the dump.

+1. The local independents often work harder for a better deal, and I enjoy working with them.

Hmm, didn't think to do that, just automatically thought of big box stores. Google doesn't show much under "appliance dealer nh"; most are Concord area anyhow, which is where we picked up the fridge from.

Made an evening of it, went to Newicks for seafood afterward. Moved the fridge into the house in the dark, which is ironically when we've moved the couch both times. Luck of the draw. About ready to replace the front door while I'm at it, at 30" wide it's starting to get annoying (back door is wider but has a flight of stairs to contend with).

We did see the $3k fridge, along with other $3k appliances. We chuckled but it's hardly surprising. Cars are appliances too, and have wide price ranges also. Just like most anything you can buy, really.

Old fridge went 11 years (under my watch) with vacuuming the coils like twice. I'm not sure we even adjusted the temperature in that time.

New fridge? had to defrost it this morning. Am hoping we didn't lose anything... but I know we did.

Not sure whose fault here. I noticed a couple days ago a large ridge of frost on the top of the freezer; topmost magnetic seal wasn't sealing. Worked the seal a bit, got it to seal. Was it like that for the entire time, or did someone close something in the door at some point? Dunno. Will keep an eye on, of course.

I guess I can now say I know how to defrost the freezer. Took maybe a half hour, not bad really (hair dryer and shop vac, just two screws to gain access to the evaporator).
