Redline Fluid recommendation causes issues in Porsche 718 PDK

Just thought this was interesting.

I believe the Redline fluid recommendation thing they have online is way too generous on what it thinks it can cover. Using their recommendations caused major issues for this guy:

Personally, I plan to do this as well but I'll be using at least the Fuchs FFL-3 version since it's extremely likely it's the same as the Pentosin.

The Redline fluid recommendation system also recommended a diff fluid for my C63 E-diff that my car didn't like very much. I changed it out for Castrol Transmax which worked great.

We’ve always used Pentosin for PDK with great results and almost always Redline for the final drive/diff - no problems.

Do we know what the actual problems were? More than subjective.

Saying my car did not like xyz gear oil does not mean much.

Mistakes can happen. Was Redline contacted?

Redline has a high quality reputation. Not like going into Family Dollar to use their vehicle recommation tool to find the best Family Dollar gear oil for your Porsche.

Redline's recs are pretty generous sometimes, especially the universal transmission fluids with a million suggested applications. On a modern dual clutch, I would never use anything but OEM, but particularly on the newer 7-speeds. The Fuchs/Pentosin fluids are usually not too hard to find either. If you're on the fence, look up the cost to R&R a PDK.

Yes, RL didn't respond.
It turns out the viscosity was wrong and PDK is very sensitive it seems to exact specs on the fluid. There was hesitation on shifting and irregular shifting patterns that were alleviated when the fluid was completely changed out to OEM spec.

"Liqui Moly 8100 is close at kinematic viscosity of 32.7 mm²/s at 40 °C and 6.85 mm²/s at 100 °C. Fuchs Titan FFL-3 is identical to Pentosin 34.7 mm²/s at 40°C and 7.0 mm²/s at 100°C"

I use Santirx's videos to work on the Macan. He's very thorough and does things properly, which takes time. I did the Thermostat on the Macan using his method. Saved $3k over having the dealer do it.

Yup, his background as an engineer is invaluable.

i really wonder if vis which is not that different was the issue redline being thicker would be like the OEM oil on a cold day perhaps was more of a air not bleed out deal?

I am generally a fan of Redline, but they and Porsche are a bad combo on several models. I tried their manual transaxle fluids in our 9x6 cars and the shifting was very notchy warm, but just terrible when cold. Obviously a PDK is different but as someone already noted, Redline may go wide on their recommendations...and certain Porsche systems are probably finicky.

Odd that Redline did not respond as I have always had good dealings with their customer support.
