The Japanese auto manufacturers, I believe, where the ones who first used these CABIN FILTERS.
Its just a matter of time before all mfgs. use these filters and its at that time that the price should come down to something reasonable.
Unless you smoke or live in a heavy polluted area like China, these charcoal impregnated cabin filters only catched heavy debris like leaves and small items.
I personally think its a good idea for the auto's HVAC system, but the prices are still too high. Our furnace HVAC filters can be bought with or without charcoal but the main reason these filters exist, is to protect the A/C coils down stream. Unless you do alot of greasy cooking or have a habit of opening your windows and allowing the pollutants to enter, charcoal filters are overkill.
But I am of the age that I can remember motor oil for less than $1.00 per quart and gasoline for 20cents per gallon and now its hard to find any brand or any viscosity or type for less than $4-5.00 per quart. Gasoline prices flucuates, but the price of motor oil stays the same. Shame on the refiners.
The only good thing is that oil change intervals are being extended from 3000miles to 5000miles or 10,000miles. With better filtration we may see even more extended intervals.
My son had about a 1980 Pontiac Booneville and he used Mobil 1. But back then we were told to change oil every 25,000 miles but change oil filters every 3000-5000 miles. Guess that has all changed.
SHAME ON THE VW DIESEL SOFTWARE PROGRAMMERS.
I have owned (4)VW's over the last 50 years but after this mess, I have my doubts if we will every own another. I have lost all confidence in VW vehicles especially diesels.
