Picked up an old 4.3 Jimmy for next to nothing and fixing to go over all the ends. 188k, slight oil leak. Normal oil consumption. My commute is just a 2 mile run to the local parts store through the stop and go lights, though I do pull some highway miles. Temps beginning to drop but usually we stay about freezing here if not dip just under. 3-5k short OCI to just clean things up

What do ya say? M1 HM is on sale but my gut tells me this beast wouldn't benefit from a full syn.

Since you're already leaking, a syn may make it worse. I'd give MaxLife a whirl.

Use MaxLife 5w30 or Defy in the same with a rebate...

The M1 HM might do some cleaning though...

You need a 1/4 inch drive ratchet, long extensions, 7/16, 1/2 and 9/16 sockets to gently snug up the bolts on your timing cover, oil pan and valve covers.
In your climate you can get away with 15w40 HDEO which is just like a HM engine oil, except cheaper and better.

It's not cheaper nor better, in fact HDEO might be more expensive with rebates available on MaxLife or Defy here. And oh yes, it's winter here too!

Is it repeat dumb myths day?

HM oil is worth a shot. For a slight oil leak I would just keep it topped off with a cheap 10w30 and enjoy the ride. Those were nice SUVs and tough as nails.

What is wrong with fixing a leak with a socket set?

Would a class 8 truck with 200k miles be considered high mileage?

Winter in your area? Use 10W30 HDEO then. A 5 gallon pail costs $70.

Quaker State HM on sale for 14 bucks at Wally World. I will give that a try.

This little truck is amazing. I would love to keep it around for a while yet

The Mobil Super High Mileage seems to be a great oil i am using it now... I have also used Pennzoil High Mileage with good results in the past..

Many people like the Max life High Mileage also.

I use Mobil 1 0W40 in mine (2 bucks a quart with the Meijer deals and rebates).
What's nice is no oil consumption and the stuff looks almost perfectly clean for the first 3000 miles, although mine only has 150,000 miles on it.
