Recommend engine cleaner

Besides the HPL engine cleaner — what other branded engine cleaners would yall recommend?

The HPL engine cleaner is in my cart with my next order: but wondering what other brand engine cleaners BITOG users recommend?
 
Do you need an engine cleaner? You can have a mildly dirty engine with some consumption but using something more detergent like a euro or hdeo will work well though a bit more slowly. I used whatever cheapest 15w40 like supertech, rotella t4, or delvac 1300, and delo sde once and that cleaned the rings in both my old trucks and I was still doing long drains not short drains. My Yukon has virtually no oil consumption anymore and my sierra consumes very very little and that one had the worst where I had to add a quart every 1200 miles or so. Now it consumes a quart about every 4-5k instead. Though it did take several changes it wasn't just one or two. But many on here have had good results with Mobil 1 Euro and Mobil 1 Extended Performance in cleaning.

If EC is in the cart with next order - does that mean some HPL oil?
Both of those will clean and if the engine is bad enough - change the filter half way in OCI …
 
I always use Marvel Mystery Oil if I need some engine cleaning...
Just substitute in a quart of MMO with your oil change, monitor the oil level and change at 3k miles for a couple of intervals, maybe more, depending on how dirty it is... After that, to keep it clean, just add a half quart of MMO about 500 miles before the next change every few intervals...
Always works for me...

Do I need one? Not sure. Purchased this vehicle about 2 months ago and just want to get the engine and fuel system as clean as possible since I don’t know how these areas were treated previously.

I am not currently consuming any oil since my first OC with this vehicle ~3,000 miles ago.

Yes. Not sure if I’m going 5W30 or 0W30 for the winter here. With that purchase, I was going to add a quart of their engine cleaner for a mild $15. Can’t hurt, right?

If you're not consuming there's basically no reason for a cleaner imo, only using something decent which maintains it like a euro or hdeo oil. If your engine is clean enough to where the dirtiest part being the rings is clean since those get exposed to the most heat then everything else can only be better. I'd suggest something like Mobil 1 0w-40. There's also Mobil 1 esp 0w-30. I wouldn't bother with Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 though.

Nope can't hurt but likely won't do anything for you but use it if you want.

Why? To throw good money down the drain? Oil changes for the sake of oil changes isn’t going to do squat to sludge. The oil needs to be able to gently dissolve the sludge and keep it in suspension. Neither regular shelf oils nor LiquiMoly engine flush are designed to do that over a full OCI, or even a shortened one.

LM flush is a “dump a solvent-based cleaner in at the end of your oil change interval and be amazed when the oil comes out dirty!” kind of product. It’s not going to remove sludge in 10 minutes. Alkylated napthalenes & specific esters can chemically break down sludge. Only a small handful of available oils are formulated that way.
