I will be participating in the Pennzoil UOA program. I was due to send in my UOA on my current fill but the head gasket went out on my 2009 Chrysler T&C. New in the stable is a 2016 Grand Caravan with 3.6 engine. What oil would you like to see go against Pup head to head? I will be ignore the OLM and run the OCI for comparable miles. Thinking 8k oci's.

What is a good tool for comparison? Pennzoil is picking up the tab so I think a UOA, while not perfect, will provide some useful information for comparison. What I am most interested in personally, is to find out how my oil of choice is holding up to my typical driving pattern. We do lots of short distance driving where the oil often does not reach operating temp.
As an aside, my vehicle has an engine hour meter. I will take note of that at the time of change and include that with the UOA sample.

The other difficulty with this program is the season's you will be running the test.
Example - PUP run over the winter while M1 run during the summer would give non comparable results.

Go to the opposite end of the spectrum and compare the cheapest Synthetic, Supertech.
I do not know how long it will take to do the UOA. My current fill is probably ACDelco bulk oil from the factory. It has about 2k miles on the oil. I may just get a wild hair and change the oil this weekend if the weather is decent. So the head to head will be a spring/summer vs summer/fall competition at best. I thought the same thing when I was looking at doing a uoa on my last vehicle which had seen its last oil change in mid-October. Did not relish the thought of doing a winter oci vs a spring/summer oci. The new parameters will be more conducive to a head to head comparison. If I know of anyone going to Mitchell, I will see if anyone has the new Mobil 1 AP. Any other oil suggestions?
Your location is not conducive to an accurate comparison - too much temperature swing. The only method with a modicum of fairness would be to run a 3 month interval for each oil between May & October; otherwise it's pointless. Not sure if Pennzoil would want to foot the bill for that anyway if your milage is low.

I'll second that. Supertech Synthetic should easily do 8k, considering dnewton went 15k on Supertech Conventional with an OK UOA.

I've got to think that "one-off" UOAs used as comparison ( even independent of the seasons, winter/summer gas, etc. ) are more anecdotal than empirical information. UOAs are a snapshot of the moment and not an extrapolated analysis of that particular oil over time. Having said that, there may be some things to see by doing this...I just don't think it can be framed as an oil "smackdown" of two heavyweights.

My owners manual states to go by the OLM, but under no circumstances go more than one year or 10k miles. Due to warranty concerns, I would not push the Mobil1 AP to its full potential. Therefore, Mobil1 EP is a more reasonable competetor to go head to head with PUP.
Also intrigued at the thought of comparing to a less expensive synthetic like SuperTech. Will have to sleep on it.

As an aside, I still wonder what the motivation is here with the new Mobil product. They saw Amsoil SS and said, "Me, too!" or something like that? I doubt that even half of M1 EP buyers take it out to 15,000 miles.
I say comparison against Castrol GTX Magnatec since it shows some stellar UOA's
I'm guessing that if you asked most people here, they would say pick the oil that is cheapest and rest well at night. You won't tell much difference (when comparing two name brands). But comparing a name brand, almost boutique oil, to a generic synthetic for someone who does 8k-10k mile OCI's might be beneficial. "Will a $4/qt synthetic protect just as well as an $8/qt synthetic in my vehicle under my driving conditions?". "Or be so close that it's not worth the extra money for the name brand?". "Can a generic synthetic do extended drains?". That would be interesting to know. It is certainly something that I want to know. When dollars are tight, am I get my money's worth? Will put PUP to the test. I just purchased a new van and it has to last a long time. We will see if PUP is worth it or if I can conserve some $$$scratch by going with a generic oil.

I just remembered that Castrol Magnatec 5w/20 is a full synthetic at a conventional price. I had forgotten that. That may perhaps be a better choice for comparison. Just going from memory, I think the price differential between Supertech Full Syn and Castrol Magnatec is pretty negligible.
