And CR is just one piece of data. I can look at tires for my pickup on CR but also look at the miles I have gotten on my current Continental tires (great miles). So while I may look at CR I will most likely go with same tire. Now if the Continental had worn out quickly then I would probably go with what CR recommend.
Dishwasher. When my dishwasher broke the repairman said the pump broke. Expensive repair. I asked what brand he recommended and also looked up in CR. And where I live in southern Delaware (yes Delaware is big enough to have a southern part) it's hard to get parts for LG. So even if CR had rated LG highly, my location and parts availability would need to be considered. If I lived in Philadelphia it would be different. LG service there is easier to get. Point again is CR provides valuable information but your need to consider more than just a CR rating.
The net is CR does a good job of testing products including cars and tires. They buy everything with secret shoppers. Not manufacturers giving them a product to test. A lot of reviews you can read on the Internet are people reading about the products not actual use and testing.
So while you might want a few sources of information before a purchase, CR is a valuable one for me.
