Rearview Mirror Adhesive

This one?
If so, then yes, I used it on my F150 back in February.
I had re-glued it 4-5 times in the past 2 years before this, with the longest lasting 6 months. I had used some superglue, some off brand stuff x2, and some other extreme superglue stuff.
This Permatex seems to be lasting much better, even the application seemed better (the little prep wipe seemed to do more than just clean like the cheap kits did). Price has gone up on Amazon though, I bought mine for $1.20.

On my Jeep TJ I had the mirror fall off about 3-4 times. I had a few different shops glue it back on and that lasted from weeks to months only. The last time it fell off I used a lil 2 part Permatex clear epoxy and and it never fell off again till Jeep was written off almost 2 yrs later (and even after being smashed by a large SUV it didn't fall off in the accident!) I took the mirror off and epoxied to button on and let it set for 2 days before putting the mirror back on the last time...

I'm not sure about the "extreme" part, but I used a really cheap Permatext product that I bought at WalMart I used once worked great. The trick is to tape the metal tab on when glued, and then let it cure for a week. Yes, I drove another car the whole time.

I used the permatex adhesive. However, I was in a hurry and wanted to have the adhesive dry while I went somewhere. I was watching a YouTube video instead of reading the directions. I backed it up to the part where the guy tells you how long to keep pressure on the metal button and forgot to wipe the windshield with the activator towelette. I realized it instantly but it was too late. I tried to pull it off but it was locked on. I put the mirror on and it seems fine. How long until it falls off?

I believe that Versachem is Permatex. Same company owns both brands.

They are both owned by ITW, I was surprised at the companies they own (check the link). 90% of getting the button to stick is in the prep, personally I would go to a windshield installer and have them put a new button on, they don't charge much. I have had good results with the Versachem, if it is the same as the Permatex or not I have no idea but it makes sense that it is.

I used the permatex kit on a few vehicles. The oldest at this point still has the button/mirror holding up fine after 12 years. Be sure to remove all traces of the old adhesive from the button and clean the window thoroughly or your mirror will fall off prematurely. I carefully scrape the buttons with a razor blade to remove any traces of the old adhesive, then clean the window the same way, followed by wiping the window down with rubbing alcohol. Once the rubbing alcohol has flashed off, I then follow the instructions on the permatex package and leave the button without mirror in place for a few days before I put the mirror back. I would imagine most premature failures are due to leaving old adhesive on the button and/or window and just trying to quickly re-stick it. Either that or people are trying to glue the button to the window w/ the mirror still attached...

These are cyanoacrylate adhesives that set up in seconds and cure in minutes. Letting them cure more than an hour wont make the bond any stronger. For $2, this is all your need.

Does WalMart sell these in the store? It's on their website for $2
I have used the Permatex Professional Strength version of rearview mirror adhesive from Walmart 2 times. It lasted about 8 months each time. The price was $2 and is now $4. Maybe the price is higher because it is a new formulation and better (I would hope) ? ) I wonder if the :permatex Extreme version available at the auto parts store for $6 is a better adhesive.

I had a 77 El Camino that the mirror kept falling off. This was in the 80s and I used several products and it still fell off. I then tried clear silicone caulk and cut a prop rod and wedged It to the floor to keep it in place. It never fell off again.
