For those using oil change stickers: be careful where you get them!

Just buy a label maker 🤷🏻‍♂️

Also keep records in a small ring binder in garage

I feel like these stickers are a thing that's like... not a thing anymore. I remember 10 years ago at the parts store people would take them every day and we'd refill that roll often. These days? That roll gets refilled like once a year, unless some kid comes in and unravels them all over the store.

The oldest car I've had that had an oil change reminder system built in was a 2002 Envoy. But now every car has it...

Even if your car doesn't have that feature, you can just change on the 5s. easy enough :)
Daughter’s 2015 Elantra SE doesn’t have any type of system. When we got it I was shocked to learn that. It has a backup camera and auto headlights but no maintenance reminder system. Seems super odd to me.

I don’t like the under the hood methods. What if I get hit by a bus tomorrow and I’m in a coma. My family needs to know how to press on with life without me. Unless everyone in your house is mechanically inclined the sticker in the windshield is a far better option.

Ring binders in garage for each one too

I rode with a co-worker to a meeting last week and I happened to glance at her trip odometer. 50k+ miles. I tried not to hyperventilate.

Her transmission went out at only 110k miles and 7 years of age. Probably not the most maintenance focused individual.

This why I try and change oil on the 5s and 0s. With winter it doesn't always work out that way so I'll use a shorter run to flush out the win milksake that's left over

The solution to your problem is to just stop using the oil change stickers.

Those stickers don’t have enough room to record the kind of oil, amount, or filter type, and for good reason. They are a staple of a by-gone era of data storage.

I refuse to post up my advise of the best way to shoe a horse because
a) you shouldn’t be shoeing your own horses
b) anyone that shoes their own horse already know’s everything I already have to tell them.

Non-removable window stickers are a problem in search of a person to be a problem for.

OLM, CarFox’s free app, iPhone/Android’s calendar entries - all these options are far superior to buying pieces of plastic to glue to your windshield.

I implore you to take advantage of them.
Agreed that there are digital applications for this in today's world. In my 30+ years of doing my own OCI's I have never put a sticker on any of my cars. For years it was a small notebook in the glove box and now it is a digital app (Fuelly). I keep all my records and costs in there. Works easier and I can always look it up even when not in the vehicle.

One thing that has really eliminated the need for stickers for most people is the fact that most cars have been coming with two trip meters for a while now. Ever since then I have always used one of them for keeping track of my oil changes. What’s really cool about the one in my Civic is that the infotainment screen keeps track of my current and 3 previous resets of Trip A so I can see what my previous OCIs were

That is a nice feature.

I also used trip B for oil changes. Trip A for fuel economy. Tires rotated on the 5s. (I know you don't rotate tires.)

I also use an Excel spreadsheet to document everything too for long term records. Also helpful for when you have to change your battery like I did recently, and it resets your trip meters.

I definitely have a spreadsheet going but kind of miss the days of the static cling stickers on the windshield. The Ram has a somewhat programmable instrument cluster and for my use I have Trip B shown for mileage on current oil and there is an oil life "gauge" as well.

For our Jeep I believe the change oil indicator came on earlier than expected but right around 8500 miles where I like to change synthetic at. The Ram must not have a smart sensor or any type of algorithm because it seems to track exactly to 10k mile oil changes per the manual.

I use the Notes app on my iPhone, backed up by my trip meter. For my farm truck I just change it every September since it barely sees 1000 miles a year.
