Raw milk

Raw milk? No way, in my grand parents farm we always boiled the milk, before drinking it.

We would fight for the film that formed on the surface after boiling, we would add sugar and enjoy. Ahh the simple life.

I drink milk now with Espresso, or cereal, otherwise I don't indulge in drinking it alone, fresh mothers milk, now that I do.

From Wikipedia, undoubtedly more information than you really wanted:
Ovaltine was developed in Switzerland, where it is known by its original name, Ovomaltine (from ovum, Latin for "egg", and malt, originally its main ingredients). In Brazil, it is still called Ovomaltine. Dr. Albert Wander, the son of the company's founder Dr. Georg Wander, is credited with its original formulation. Ovomaltine was exported to England in 1909; it was a misspelling in the trademark registration process that led to the name being truncated to Ovaltine in English-speaking markets.

So much for naming products after the shape of the packaging, eh?

Too bad they neglected to mention that Ovomaltine is delicious while Ovaltine is not good at all. As a kid I always liked the Ovomaltine nutrition bars.

What do you mean? They said it's the same stuff, only a different name. There are 3 versions, one chocolate&malt, chocolate without malt, and malt without chocolate. Maybe you tried the wrong one.

Ovaltine flavor is adjusted to general taste of the market where it is sold. NA Ovaltine is considerably more sweet and blander than Euro Ovomaltine. I've never tried anything but the regular "original" version, and it varies considerably depending on the market.

From what I remember, Ovaltine had no cocoa when I last looked at the ingredients. It was a concoction of artificial ingredients and sugar as far as I remember.

On the manufacturer's website (Wander in Switzerland, owned by British ABF) the following ingredients are listed for the Swiss forumula of regular Ovaltine:

Original Ovomaltine (Swiss product sold in Switzerland):

64% malt extract
carbohydrate
condensed milk
low fat cocoa
eggs (barn eggs)
yeast
4 minerals
vegetable oil
sodium
13 vitamins
Vanillin aroma (artificial vanilla flavor)

Original Ovomaltine (sold in Germany -- also a Swiss product, but slightly different forumula):

47% malt extract
sucrose
low fat powdered milk
low far cocoa
powdered whey
yeast
magnesium carbonate
calcium phosphate
plant oil
11 vitamins
sodium
3 minerals
Vanillin

Ovaltine (sold in USA -- Swiss product is made my Novartis who sold the original maker Wander in 2002). They have three versions of Ovaltine. The closest to the original Ovomaltine is Chocolate Malt Ovaltine. It contains:

sugar,
cocoa processed with alkali
barley malt extract
sweet dairy whey
beet extract
sodium
mono and diglycerides
molasses
natural caramel flavor
Vanillin

No wonder it's sweet!

In the Asian section of US supermarkets you can find an Ovaltine that comes in the same orange can like the Euro stuff. I bought it once and threw it out. I'll check who makes it and what's in it.

The one I checked out had artificial flavors and a few artificial blue/red/yellow colors. The main ingredient, like the one you posted, was sugar.

Milk has to be pasturised for human consumption here in New Zealand. When I used to stay on a friends dairy farm we would take a jug from the vat before seperation to have with our breakfast. The full milk was like cream, the cream was so thick it wouldn't pour. You don't realise how much milk has been tampered with until you get closer to the source.

raw milk is the best...used to dip it right out of the bulk tank at my neighbor's farm....
then again, i like goat's milk too

Never knew raw milk was illegal for sale to humans. I grew up within spitting distance of two dairy farms. My family bought all their milk raw from them. It would have a head of light cream on it after sitting all night. Never hurt me a bit.

Rob, since you are replying to one of my posts, where did I claim that selling raw milk for human consumption was generally illegal? I even posted a link to a place that sells raw milk.
