Rav4 is globally no. 1 again

Never been a fan of RAV4 styling or the Toyota line...can't argue it's success however 😉
I have a coworker with a R4H and she seems quite happy with it. I've been in it, it's a bit down on the level of luxury I personally desire, but it seems to be sufficient for her needs/desires, and apparently much of the rest of the population, based on this thread.

Im not sure " bye bye " is accurate at all. The two are within a few thousand units of one another.

When one considers the model Y's go to end users, and Rav4's end up on dealer lots more model y's have actually been sold to end users than Rav4's.

Im amazed the Y is #2 car in the world considering their CEO managed to find a way to make absolutely everyone hate him.
Also while Ys were in limited supply. The new Y is in full production and delivering regularly now.

Talked to a friend/customer of mine on Friday and mentioned that I was surprised that he still had his Challenger (saw it in the lot) and I asked who owned the white Model Y. Apparently, him! 🤣 He bought it before Uncle Elon got into politics, so he rode the appreciation, then SHARP depreciation curves, lol. It's an MYP in white on white. The white interior doesn't do anything for me, but to each their own of course. He said he put the largest tires he could fit on it to improve the ride because of how harsh it was (Michelin PS4S IIRC?). I asked him about the new Model Y and he remarked that he'd love to get one, because they ride and handle much better than his, but because of the depreciation hit, he'll be holding on to it for a while.

Yeah, the values have been interesting for sure. I ended up with the white interior on my Performance because I wanted to buy a car in inventory so I didn't have to wait for it and I wanted Ultra Red or Quicksilver. White was all that was available to me. I'm glad I went white to be honest, but it was never my intention to get white. I picked up that car just before all the craziness kicked off, but I just got the new one last month for my wife. With the discounts I got at the time I bought my red one, the new one was about the same price overall even with the updates, but it's an AWD Long Range model.

The Performance is not the one to get if ride quality is important and I see why some complain about it, but it handles the way it does for a reason. Tesla has backed off on this with new models and the suspension is a lot softer. Owning and driving both I definitely don't think the new suspension makes it handle better. It definitely body rolls more, but easier to live with on rough roads. I'm curious to see what happens with the new Performance's suspension.

It should be remembered that a substantial fraction of F-150 sales are to fleet buyers and those are typically low margin strippo units with AC and some sort of radio and not much else.
Had an F-250 so equipped in our fleet at work and it was pretty miserable to drive with its ride and handling deficiencies. Who would have expected death wobble on any current light duty vehicle?

The RAV4 comes in ICE and hybrid models, which offers choices based on budget and need. The Model Y is, of course, only electric so it's amazing it sells so well.
If I were buying an SUV and couldn't charge at home, the RAV4 hybrid would be a very strong choice. Toyota makes great (the best?) hybrids. And gas ain't exactly cheap around here...

If I were buying an SUV, it would very likely be a Model Y.
Both are great choices, IMO. The Juniper has one huge advantage; Teslas are turbo fun to drive. There is nothing else like them for the $$; the RAV4 has no chance in the fun factor.

At least in the US, the new generation RAV4 is hybrid only similar to the Sienna and Camry. It will be interesting to see what it does to sales in the next couple years. I’m personally glad to see they are getting rid of the non-hybrid variants. The regular ones were less reliable, louder/less refined, slower, got 12-14 less MPG in the real world, and burned through brakes. The only legit argument for a non-hybrid RAV4 is that the AWD is not as good on the hybrids which is electric only in the rear. But I took my 2020 RAV4 Hybrid on the high-clearance, off-road sections of The Badlands and Theodore Roosevelt National Parks without issue (with stock Michelin tires!).

I’ve been in my wife’s 24 Rav4H all week, as she’s out of town and I’ve been working on a rear bumper upgrade a couple of nights on mine. I can not believe how intuitive of a drivers car the Rav4H is. I know that sounds bonkers. I can’t help but throw it through its paces in normal driving. It’s very easy to communicate with the chassis and set it up for the next move… while getting 40 mpg.

They are supposed to come out with a basic small pickup for the US, since the Tacoma is where it is.
Been hearing that for 3+ years now. They should name it "The Invisible Stout" I'm sure it will be good but I bet it won't be inexpensive.
