Rav4 is globally no. 1 again

My girlfriend has had great luck so far with her 2018 RAV4 hybrid that she bought last year. I talked her into trading her 2014 BMW X3 for it actually, as that car was a gas pig (and also needed premium). She is a real estate agent and also has “mom taxi” duties, so she was spending a lot more money on gas before. The Rav has cut her gas costs almost in half. Plus the BMW was costing her about $1500 to $2000 a year in repairs and the Toyota hasn’t needed a thing yet (it has 141,000 km on it, the BMW had about the same mileage on it when she traded it in)

I actually didn't know Tesla had outsold all the big names. Moves Musk up a notch or three in my book.

Also if Toyota melded the Tacoma and HiLix into one solid truck, they would be up there.
Maybe 4-5k of those global Model Y sales in 2025 might have an Asterix. And maybe some the 2024 sales too.

Tesla claimed to sell 8600 vehicle in 72 hours at 4 dealerships, to claim the $5k per vehicle rebate from the federal government and use up the last of the rebates available, and has had similar unrealistic sales days in the past. Since Tesla owns their dealerships, it shows their company ethics.
Its too bad as they don't have to do this kind of stuff, but it is going to hurt them long term, as it seems they won't eligible for future rebates here for a while.

Her 2018 is exactly the same thing as my 2021 Sienna. Tell her to change the fluids requently and it will last forever. The hybrid inverter coolant and Hybrid battery filter are also very very important

Im not sure " bye bye " is accurate at all. The two are within a few thousand units of one another.

When one considers the model Y's go to end users, and Rav4's end up on dealer lots more model y's have actually been sold to end users than Rav4's.

Im amazed the Y is #2 car in the world considering their CEO managed to find a way to make absolutely everyone hate him.

Here it is visualized.

Where is GM? Stellantis?

These are 2024 numbers, so far in 2025, Tesla is down 13% in both Q1 and Q2.

Two things here amaze me...

1. That the Model Y is #2 (and was formerly #1) in the WORLD. That a car from a company that became mainstream less than a decade ago is literally one of the most popular cars in the world. Oh and it happens to be FULLY ELECTRIC.

2. That the F-150 is within the top 10 at all given that it's basically ONLY popular in North America. It goes to show how big and important the North American car market is compared to the rest of the world. And it's probably one of the most expensive and highest margin on that list.

1. For a company thats been labelled as "going out of business" for the majority of its life and that every quarter been labelled as a " disaster, catastrophe, disappointment" by detractors its almost unbelievable to see anywhere on a list like this.

2. The f150 is also likely the most heavily incentivized with generous benefit allowed by section 179 which is a tax subsidy. Half ton truck sales would vaporize overnight if not for 179.

There are people are literally crying, chain smoking and shedding tears about the EV credit also claim EV are a total failure and only a tiny percent of the market but are utterly silent on the far larger 179 subsidy.
