The truck looks very nice but its a little weird the way the ford logo on the tailgate merges into the tail lights.

This vintage is much nicer looking.

Higher EPA fuel economy standards means the big V8 is going to fade fast. And gasoline is under $2.00 per gallon in many states in the US. Equivalent to $0.55 per liter !!

I agree it's a better looking truck but ones of that vintage are lacking in front seat room, IMO.

As far as the new aluminum-intense "regular" Ford trucks go, Car and Driver just did a compare of the newest GM, Ford, Dodge and Toyota pickups. While all had their strengths and weaknesses, the Ford was their top pick (by a very slim margin over the Chevy). Both had similar performance and identical fuel mileage. What I found interesting was that the 600+ pound reduction in weight for the Ford means it now weighs about 150 pounds less than the Chevy (the Dodge outweighed the Ford by 400 pounds). The Chevy makes due with a large V8 while the Ford has the 3.5L Eco boost engine (which has to keep the turbos spooled up to get any performance). I'm still not sold on the long-term reliability of these Eco boost engines. In the end, all of that aluminum and turbo technology produces what GM accomplishes with steel and a V8 engine.

Makes you wonder why the Chevy is so light for a conventional design?

Given the new F150 is a ground up redesign, has Chevy been cutting corners on the important (heavy) bits?

Just wondering out loud.

I have been wailing for years about how heavy the Fords are. All that 'road hugging' weight costs you every day in fuel and wear and tear.

Then factor in their measly 60k warranty and suddenly that ole GM doesn't look so bad now....

Chevy's were always the lightest, Ford was racing Ram for the porky award before the 15's came out.

The biggest downside of the Ram is its a big boy.

In the real world the Chevy won that C&D test because you can buy them right now for lots less than the new F150...Is the F150 probably better? Sure, but is it $10k better right now? Not in my book I'd rather pocket the extra money. Trucks are so similar these days just shop price and warranty.

On a side note the Chevy's lift over height on their tailgate is still the lowest.
