Just a nice 102 adjusted temp day here in the SE. Decided to get some good training in.

AR10, Ballistic Advantage Modern Series heavy barrel, US Optics level, Trijicon 5.5 ACOG with reticle for 308, nearly factory trigger. 175 Sierra Matchking.

Paper target is at 300 yards, 2 Oclock hit was a called bad pull, the other 4 were called as good shots. We can look at the screen to view as it happens. We will call our shots to the spotter.....for good training. Mostly, this gun is between 1.25 and 1.5 MOA, today it was 1.6 MOA. Well within the SR25\M110 accuracy levels.

Viewing down the scope, are clearly the 2 and 300 steel....5.5X big magnification :ROFLMAO:

Precision shots can be made with low power fixed optics like the ACOG.

Have had this gun out to 1000, reticle allows for 1200.

Long range off the bench is fun, prone on the ground is funner. (y)

No shooting here until it rains and there's none in sight. 🥵
Agreed. Out at the 600 yards range, I shoot in the prone.

My friend is a champion benchrest shooter, and this area is undercover with a fan, and all the monitoring gear. Bench is not my favorite.

I have been wanting an AR10 for some time. I have an AR15 and really enjoy shooting with it. I used to shoot in occasional surplus rifle matches with 30-06 and other 30ish caliber rounds. I can appreciate the light recoil of the .223 round, but a gas operated semiautomatic rifle in 30 caliber might come into the sweet spot.

Shooting a rifle match with an 8mm Mauser, is like being kicked by a mule..

I enjoy the AR10 and a well set up one is pleasure. In my mind a quality 20 inch x 3/4 inch barrel coupled with a 1 in 10 twist is just a nice all around configuration and will accurately shoot 168 FGMM or similar match ammo.

Not too big or heavy, long enough to get good long range velocity and yet heavy enough to shoot smoothly.

I would argue that of all the 308 rifles out there, in 308, the AR10 is the best overall, not my favorite, but for strength, accuracy and serviceability. There is a reason why the SR25 And M110 are favorites among military snipers and DMs. I would say that if you want a semi auto 308, the AR10 is the way to go. I does have its disadvantages like everything else.
In my mind a quality 20 inch
This one is a 20 inch. Friend of mine has a 18" BA barrel, that shoots good too. For 308 anything above a 20 inch is unweildy with little advantages, for that kind of gun.
