Looking for advice for vehicle ramps. Mostly for oil changes. An Astro van and Crown Vic would be the heaviest. Have three major auto parts chain stores close by and a Sears.

What do you like? What should I stay away from?

I'm not fat, I'm just getting old. The Crown Vic is low. The CR-V has the filter/plug in the center/rear. I'd like to have enough room to roll under with a creeper.

I want something safe and something that will provide room for oil changes. I'm sure other uses would arise, but oil changes is the primary reason for wanting ramps.

The new 16k Rhino Ramps at Advance Auto and elsewhere look great. With AAP online purchase and using a code, price can be be knocked down substantially. Bought my son the 12k Rhino's a couple years ago using an AAP online code and they work fine. In the Rhinos, I'd stick with the 12k or new 16k ramps.

That said, I have a set of yellow metal ramps I bought at Advance many years ago, now sold painted black and called Ultra Ramps. I have the UR6500 and they are now sold at Harbor Freight and Northern Tool ~$40, less with HF 20% coupon. Rated for 2k each ramp and they've worked fine. If you have a lower profile vehicle, the plastic extenders I also own, are a necessity. Those now have to purchased online though are a bit pricey. Based on your vehicle profile, shouldn't be needed.

I'm pretty average dimensions myself, and they're not too high even for me.

I have the same ramps. bought from K-Mart many years ago and have been going nuts looking for the extenders. Thanks for the info.

I've got the same ramps, am athletic/thin, and I sometimes find these ramps to be a little low on vehicles that are low to the ground to begin with.

I've had a GMC Yukon and Sierra 2500HD on them - ramps didn't even creak.

Great ramps. I like them much more than the metal type.

I've used the Rhino ramps for several yrs. on my Mazda6 with no issues. They have worked well with the oil and ATX changes on that car. I just make sure to drive up on them slowly, and in the center for safety. My Mazda 6s is also not the highest clearance car either, but there's seems to be plenty of room under there.

I bought a set of 12K Rhinos from AAP with coupon code a couple of years ago.
I had changed the BMW a time or two without ramps, and suffered enough that I finally bought a pair.
It is really a pain to change either the BMW or the Hondas without ramps.
For the Hondas and the BMW, they're priceless.
For the Subarus, totally unnecessary.
If the 16K Rhinos had been available at the time, I would have bought them instead of the 12Ks.
A little extra margin never hurts.

I have two sets of these ramps. I use the second set to raise the car level to check fluid level (trans and diff). A poor man's lift.

I find that these have enough height for my corvette, which has very low ground clearance (3-5 inches). I am also a larger than normal guy (6'2" and 230 pounds). Now I should mention that I don't use my creeper with my Corvette, but it is okay with my Impala and other cars.

Everyone seems to like the Rhinos. Coincidentally, the Rhinos is what I was looking at in my AAP.

Ill give them a closer look.

So you put a ramp in the front of each tire (or back if you go in reverse) and drive the whole vehicle up on four ramps?

Just be careful with them in the winter! i had an Excursion or an Expedition (i don't remember) break a pair of the 12,000 in very cold weather.

Unfortunately is appears the 16k Rhino have now been listed as an AAP "hot item" and isn't eligible online discount codes.

Apparently many others were using a code and getting $20 off the price and that was a very good deal.

I have a pair of the 12k Rhino's. I've used them a couple of times and been very disappointed. They only lift about 6" so it gets pretty tight under a car using a creeper. Both times they've slipped forward when trying to drive a car up the ramps. The little rubber bumper under the front of the ramp does only 2 things: it leaves rubber marks on the garage floor, and then it falls off. I had to put a rug under the back of each ramp to keep them from slipping. This happens when using them on a '04 and '08 Taurus.

I had enough of that monkeying around, so I bucked up and bought a pair of welded aluminum 10" lift ramps. They're heavier and bulkier than the Rhino's, but worth the extra dollars as far as lift height and comfort. Now I have gobs of room to move around under the car, and they don't EVER slip when driving a car up them. Maybe the Rhino's will work for you, they just didn't for me.

Anyone use the 8000 rhino for their Honda CRVs?

I used the 8000 ramp a few times to change the oil on 2010 CRV, Corolla and Yaris. It takes a while to center on the CRV. Other than that, it works fine.

i've had a set that has worked great for roughly 10 years. i am worried that i should replace them sometime though because of plastics.. uh well, long term non-durablity.

i dont like ramps. my fatherin-law died under one. i recommend a good floor jack and jack stands. ALL WAYS chock the wheels
