I wonder whether it makes sense to flood the oil 0W-20 A5/B5.
The recommendation is to flood the 0W-20 for Toyota.
But perhaps a better pour A5/B5 5w30?
Can 0W-20 oil, I will provide better protection than 5w30?

Oil 0W-20 oil is a typical winter, what sense is it to pour over the year?

Perhaps the most important thing here is the temperature of the engine and pumping cold oil?
After what has been introduced at all 0W-20 oil?

Maybe you have some comparison 0W-20 oils are some big differences between the well-known brands?

0W-20 generally flows faster at start-up, but the 20 in the number is the full temperature number so you don't give up anything for thickness when it's warmed up.

Between the 5W-20 and the 0W-20, I would use the 0W-20 all year.
Any brand that meets the owner's manual requirements should be fine.

20 weight oil is very close to a 30 weight anyway.

The 0w just means it does not get very thick when cold.

No problem.

And that oil will give me better protection?
0W-20 or 5w30?
I can pour into the engine where the 5w30 is recommended 0W-20?

Protection from what? More protection from holding the throttle wide open for 3+hours in whatever gear required to allow you to do it? Protection in terms of cold flow properties if you happen to encounter -40C temps at start up? Protection in terms of reducing oil pump relief events at cold start?

Just what?

If the engine is designed for 0w20 then chances are you'll get practically the same protection as 5w30 but better gas mileage.

If you want to be paranoid, move up to 5w20 but don't go all the way up to a 30

The first number being '0' is a good thing, especially in winter. This is the cold rating.
The second number is the hot rating.

There is not much difference , but the 30 is thicker.

Is the 30 better? Unless you have special needs, no.

I just put Mobil 1 0w-20 into my fiancee's Honda's L15A engine. So far so good. Can't say anything for fuel economy yet. Maybe in a few thousand miles.

I've been running amsoil 0w20 for the last year and 5 months or so(with once a year oil changes). The engine is a honda and calls for 5w20, so 0w20 is fine for it.

The 0w20 will be fine all-year round. Some would argue that oil should really be a 0w30 or 5w30 for better protection, but 5w20 is what Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, etc... are specifying for many applications.

I live in the great white north and most of use block heaters to warm the engine oil during winter nights. I was happy to have the 0w20 in there when the cord for my block heater was broken and it was -35 or colder while parked at work.

Will be switching to 5w20 and more regular changes, but that's another story.

I'd like to hear why you are doing the switch Scott given that you seemed pleased with the 0W20.

Any chance you could UOA your 0W20?
