Our 2018 Tiguan with 142k had its first issue ever. Basically loose power , 4000 RPM max dash warning and would not accelerate. A restart resets it for a bit and again.

Turns out a TSB and extended warranty(10yr/125k) exists for fuel injection wiring harness replacement which is diagnosed issue. We have to pay $750 unfortunately(too many miles)

Question:
Wife approved an additional decarb service and curious if the $300 is prudent at this mileage or just a way of making money? It’s a VW 2.0T thanks

With that kind of mileage (142K), yes, I would. although, there are a lot of vehicles out there with more than 300K and never have been decarbonized.

depends on the decarb service if its just sucking up some solvent with a vacuum line its more of a wallet thinner than a needed service.
if its walnut blasting the valves or some other legit service... maybe.

They are generally honest but err on side of recommending .

Whether it’s zip ties or walnut blast, manual cleaning is worth it for $300 at that mileage.

You got me curious about zip tie cleaning. Can it be DIY?

After removing the intake, yes.

I was at VW during the EA888 Gen 1 days. The BG machine wouldn't touch baked-on IVD.

Maybe they make less hard deposits now, I don't know.
