Question for those who reuse oil filters

When I used an oil filter for multiple OCI"s (only on my Hondas, per owners manual) I would leave it on. If you remove it you may as well put a new one on, as gasket deformation and damage may occur. As of late I have replaced the filter with each OCI as OCI's are now very close to 1 year.

from a real mechanic, it is imposable to get all the old out. So no this stupid. high End filters are $8 to $15 dollars.

cheaper to leave oil in 50K miles and change filter every 5K mile !!

Well do what you are comfortable with but Honda has have DI and oil dilution problems. I'd change it all out! Get a reading on your fuel dilution!

I do not remove it to drain it. I leave it on and make sure to use the same oil for the second OCI.

For me, using the filter twice on cars that say it can be done is simply a time saver. Sure it’s only a few minutes, but that’s a few minutes saved to do other things…

As a master oil change tech, u poke hole in can to get old out to recycle it, try it crazy how much oil come out !! So this whole post is a joke, better to over change filter VS oil..............
So you're saying running oil for 50,000 miles is just fine and it won't cause any problem? 😂

Loosening the filter defeats the purpose of using a filter for a second oil change. No time is saved, it still makes a mess, and it could potentially leak.

Yes. Many don’t realize there’s a lot more than what the filter holds still inside the engine. Coating parts, sitting in the pan, inside the pump etc.

As for the second part of your comment, I’ll pass.

Flush doesn't hurt anything at low levels and burns off anyway. We have seen UOA's here on BITOG that verify only minute differences in viscosity with an oil flush.
Sure, but if your goal is to get the bad oxidized oil out then it would be more efficient to use new motor oil. The flush isn't going to un-oxidize the leftover oil somehow. This is a simple dilution.

Yes exactly, that's why hot oil and the flush will bring more out because of dilution and chemicals to remove more contaminants, deposits etc.
