Question about spin on full flow filters?

I posted this elsewhere, but you bypass system guys might have an answer.

I have a possibly not brilliant question, but as usual, I'm rather curious. If bypass operation of the (somewhat) restrictive media isn't harmful given the benefits rendered by that media (98% of 10 micron particles in the case of a PureOne), why not build spin-on filters with the media of, say a bypass filter capable of removing 1 micron particles?

I realize most of the oil would bypass, but ALL of the oil would pass through that 1-micron filtration at a rate of, say, a gallon every minute instead of 6 through a PureOne? I forget the flow rates, but would the finer filtration justify the high bypass rates to remove the smaller particles? I'm assuming an arrangement containing a bypass that doesn't flow the bypassed oil over the dirty side of the media, of course. If only 5 percent of the oil passed through the finer media with the rest bypassing, wouldn't that make such a filter the best solution?

2, is the service interval required, if I'm reading your post correctly. The typical spin-on just doesn't have the holding capacity that this level of filtration would require ..even if setup to only treat 5-10% of the flow at one time. Look at the sliding scale of bypass filters. TP ..high filtration ..frequent service interval (relatively)..Amsoil ..less fine ..longer. A normal sized can will have a hard time competing in either arena

You have to be the type that assures that they get more than enough beta carotene in their diet ..except for your engine.

Meaning, Gary, that the rest of the car fell apart far ahead of the lubricated internals?

If so, it makes sense. But then, that's why YOU are the engineer, and I am only the ear.

Oooops. I thought most of the low-numbered typing heads here were analyst-engineering kinda guys.

Meanwhile, I'm looking into the BMK-13 bypass arrangement. For a lousy couple or three or four hundred bucks, *I* too can have long OCIs. I'm probably a nut for putting it in the vehicle i'm putting it in, but in always able fashion (I'm learning from the best at BITOG), I can rationalize it all with the mantra, "I can move it to the next car, I can move it to the next car, I can move it to the next car".

Besides, I tinker, therefore, I am.
