I posted this elsewhere, but you bypass system guys might have an answer.
I have a possibly not brilliant question, but as usual, I'm rather curious. If bypass operation of the (somewhat) restrictive media isn't harmful given the benefits rendered by that media (98% of 10 micron particles in the case of a PureOne), why not build spin-on filters with the media of, say a bypass filter capable of removing 1 micron particles?
I realize most of the oil would bypass, but ALL of the oil would pass through that 1-micron filtration at a rate of, say, a gallon every minute instead of 6 through a PureOne? I forget the flow rates, but would the finer filtration justify the high bypass rates to remove the smaller particles? I'm assuming an arrangement containing a bypass that doesn't flow the bypassed oil over the dirty side of the media, of course. If only 5 percent of the oil passed through the finer media with the rest bypassing, wouldn't that make such a filter the best solution?
