Question about Series 9000 Schaeffers

Schaeffers Series 9000:

5w40 = CCS Viscosity @ -30C cP (ASTM D-5293) = 4,311. Pour Point = -42C. Viscosity 40C, cSt (ASTM D-445) = 85.50-89.00. Viscosity 100C cSt (ASTM D-445) = 13.50–15.75. Viscosity Index (ASTM D-2270) = 159.

5w30 = Cold Cranking Viscosity (ASTM D-5293) @-30°C, cP = 6,000. Pour Point = -42C. Viscosity @ 40°C, Cst (ASTM D-445) = 58.00-73.00. Viscosity @ 100°C, Cst (ASTM D-445) = 10.00-12.00. Viscosity Index (ASTM D-2270) = 160.

Almost seems contradictory??? As in the 5w40 is higher viscosity at 40*F, but has a lower CCS Viscosity and lower VI??

Am I misreading that? That the 5w40 actually has better cold weather performance?
 
I hope Salesrep chimes in here as I am probably way off base here.

"I think" the 5W-40 is a PAO synthetic and the 5w30 is a mix of Group II+ and Group III base stocks, or it might be all Group III on the 5w30.

Remember, this is not fact, but something I believe I was told or read.
 
Are you referring to the 7000 series 5w30? They offer 5w30 in both 7000 (blend) and 9000 (full syn)...
 
No, I'm referring to the 9000 series 5w30. I don't think the 9000 5w30 is a PAO fluid, but like I said, I could be wrong. If it is not, that would explain some of your questions.

From the Schaeffer website... "Supreme 9000 is blended from a unique combination of polyalphaolefin (PAO) synthetic base fluids and severely hydrocracked synthetic base fluids."
 
I would still like to know if their info is correct, and if the s9k 5w40 flows better than the s9k 5w30 at cold temperature??

Doesn't make any sense to me, but if that's the case; I would be able to continue buying just 5w40, and not end up buying 5w30 for one application.
 
Is the Schaeffer literature correct? It appears the the 5w40 has better cold weather characteristics than the 5w30?
 
Best of my knowledge. Schaeffer 9000 5-40 has the diesel ad pack. 9003 does not. 9000 may have slightly more pao.
 
I guess the main question I have is, based on the advertised numbers in the literature; does the Series 9000 5w40 appear to be a better cold weather choice than the Series 9000 5w30?
