5w40 = CCS Viscosity @ -30C cP (ASTM D-5293) = 4,311. Pour Point = -42C. Viscosity 40C, cSt (ASTM D-445) = 85.50-89.00. Viscosity 100C cSt (ASTM D-445) = 13.50–15.75. Viscosity Index (ASTM D-2270) = 159.
5w30 = Cold Cranking Viscosity (ASTM D-5293) @-30°C, cP = 6,000. Pour Point = -42C. Viscosity @ 40°C, Cst (ASTM D-445) = 58.00-73.00. Viscosity @ 100°C, Cst (ASTM D-445) = 10.00-12.00. Viscosity Index (ASTM D-2270) = 160.
Almost seems contradictory??? As in the 5w40 is higher viscosity at 40*F, but has a lower CCS Viscosity and lower VI??
Am I misreading that? That the 5w40 actually has better cold weather performance?
