Quality replacement refrigerator?

anything but small under a hundred is a waste on an older appliance, buy as simple as possible $$$$

like todays hybridized foods appliances are not as good in the past!! 2 GE frigs now + a LG front loader + when issues arise i just replace with another basic cheap model!!

You trust what a salesman has to say?
It depends.

There was no advantage to him telling me that Whirlpool had issues, just like other leading brands. His store carried practically all the leading appliance brands, including Whirlpool. If anything, he ran the risk that If I were a Whirlpool fan boy, I may have decided to buy elsewhere. If he didn't carry Whirlpool, and was trying to sell me on something he did carry, I would have taken his opinion with much less weight.

No one universal answer. ask 3 people, you'll get 4 different answers

Go to the Youtube channel: Ben's Appliance and search for "best refrigerator" https://www.youtube.com/shopcollection/SCUCRFVOlKSJrocj5ycmxDm4z8wEGNMEuik5A?scp=EAE=

and compare his list to your wants.

Or get a Costco membership and buy one that is not Whirlpool or Kitchenaid (like I said, everyone has their own answer)

Or if you have the $, get a Sub-Zero.

Most fridge's have a 10 year warranty on the compressor. But prob not the electronics. The thing is, for us DIY types, a replacement compressor is actually rather inexpensive. Less than $200 if ya look around.

I've seen Whirlpool ones for $100.

Most of the choices are questionable these days IMO.

Just went through two Frigidaire french door, with bottom freezer fridges. Both didn’t seal properly the bottom freezer, resulting in condensation and frost buildup.
Good thing Costco took them back without any hassle. Went with LG, we’ll see how that holds up.

2025 Kenmore has zero to do with "Golden Age" Sears/Kenmore (rebadged Golden Age Whirlpools/Maytags). If you are looking at a store brand appliance (Kenmore, Best Buy-Insignia, etc.) or less-established brand (Midea, etc), double check the parts availability.

Even Haier (owners of GE Appliances) appliances might not have the same parts availability as their Kentucky assembled GE cousins.

GE is one year warranty including compressor.
I know because my wife and I just bought our daughter one as a house warming gift. I was kind of surprised but we knew this before purchasing it.
LG is five years on the compressor, including labor and 10 years on the compressor only.

We did initially buy her an LG, but they couldn’t get it into the kitchen through the doorway and the delivery people did not want to take off the doors like they used to do because of all the electronics in the door.

So our choice was limited to a GE counter depth at the same price as the larger LG

My wife and I have an LG counter depth and love it but its significantly more money than the GE was and we already spent our budget on our daughter with some other items, including a higher end Sony TV

I thought that I would bring this thread back to life.
I will be replacing our nearly 7 year old GE side by side. I have had enough of this thing. It's on it's third ice maker. I have replaced a water valve/solenoid. I had to pull a panel away from the fan, using zip ties. The fan was hitting on the plastic cover. It's now making strange noises. I'm assuming it's related to the fan and defrost cycle. It's not worth putting another penny into it.
I will be buying a 21.3 cubic foot (33" wide) Whirlpool with a top freezer. Time to buy some new Brita filters.
I'm never buying another side by side refrigerator of any brand.

I bought a Whirlpool w/freezer on top last summer. No icemaker, no display panel, rotary controls.
I will be adding an ice maker.
The rotary controls is one of my main reasons for choosing a large top freezer model. Touch type controllers will go bad and cost a lot to fix.
Through the door ice and water are great features of side by sides. However, these are other areas of failure.

LG is the absolute bottom of barrel trash. Whirlpool (which is probably what your Kenmore is), GE or Frigidaire are the best.
The cell phones they used to make were top quality units. Better than anything made now.

Check out what the brand you think you want, doesn't disable something if you don't change the water filter. Though you can usually get the by pass unit.

Whirlpool oven control panel stopped working. Not available new. $300 for used. Took it to https://www.fixyourboard.com/ in Austin TX. They take your old one and give you a new one. About $150. Had actual switches. I could feel them click when pressed on. I think they work w/all kinds of panels.

I never go by brand name anymore. Too many brands get bought out and then milked. That's modern capitalism for ya.

Our 33 year old Kenmore refrigerator is going south. Shopping for replacement. Not french door type. 30 W X 28 D. Top Freezer. Leaning to LG or Whirlpool. What's good now and what's junk? Guessing Nothing will last 30 years now days. Our whole kitchen was Kenmore. Most of it was junk but the refrigerator stood the test of time.

Any of the brands repairable?

Better forum to post this to?
A number of newer Whirlpool fridges are said to have a lifespan between 10 and 20 years. A few years ago LG went with a horizontal compressor that had close to a 100 percent failure rate.
