Quaker State 5W-40 Euro gone?

It looks like most companies sell their Euro oils mostly in bottles vs jugs. Valvoline does the same thing. Probably only Mobil and Castrol have some EUro oils in 5 qt jugs.
Valvoline does sell the euro 5w40 in 5qt jugs. I grabbed mine from AutoZone last oil change. Walmart has really shrunk their selection, at least in stores. It used to be a healthy amount of variety, Pennzoil, quaker state, mobil 1, valvoline etc but my local store is almost exclusively Mobil 1 now with some castrol sprinkled in there. Sad :( edit: also, I see pennzoil euro lx 5w30 in 5qt jugs too. Pennzoil is holding out on us

I bought 2 jugs of Quaker State 5w40 at Walmart last week. Just so happened I needed oil for my Wife’s Venza. Mobil 1 0w40 was gone so this will do. I wish they’d bring the big box of 0w40 back in store.

Online or in stores? My local Walmart doesn't even have a sticker for Quaker State 5w40 anymore. It seems so random where it pops up.

Ha! I came by to share the following and the thread's already tee-d up.

After watching the Lake Speed video on lubricant supply chains and the big GTL plant going offline, I bought an oil change's worth of Quaker State Euro. I probably won't be due for this fall, but I figured that while we aren't completely sure it has GTL base oil, if GTL is indefinitely offline, Quaker State would be the first to see it go since it never officially had it in the first place.

I also wondered if I might be too late. Given they seemed to anticipate the Iran war with the Pennzoil Ultimate labels, it's equally possible they anticipated a shortage by reformulating Quaker State Euro.

I ordered it Tuesday, online at Walmart for free home delivery. It came to Portland, OR from Chino, California. My fear that they may have already switched the formulation was unnecessary as the 5 qt jugs had an 18Jun25 date code printed on them. HTH.

Lmao. Of course they would say that. How many people do you think are even aware of the real reason?

A couple guys at the very top get hinted that the GTL plant may become a target and may go offline for a while, maybe even for a long while.

They suggest to marketing dept, "ya know, this GTL is getting a little old... maybe we should pivot some of our branding... I don't know, maybe not have it on the bottles anymore and see if the market notices any."

You don't have to (and wouldn't even) change the formulation right away on the good stuff. On the lesser stuff, maybe you don't change it any right away either. Or maybe you say to the accountant guys, "we want to bump our GTL inventory stock. Nothing dramatic, don't hurt margins. Ask the engineers to lean-out the amount we've been blending in our Quaker State line by 60% or whatever they know they can get away with and hold it in inventory."

Can't find Quaker State Euro at Canadian Tire, or Walmart.ca anymore. So I'm assuming it's not in Canada anymore. PP/Euro is still fully stocked everywhere, no label change.

Dont think it would make sense for ONLY the Ultimate line to switch base oil's now. The 'Full Synthetic' words are still in light blue. Maybe the marketing dept thought natural gas/gas to liquid would be a distraction to some people. They highlight 'SRT' and 'DexosR' (with a red drop of blood) on the label instead, that's the selling point. The sds sheets still show 90+% gtl.

70-90 percent GTL according to the SDS...

A blender or manufacturer can easily substitute one base stock with another without recertification as long as the requirements of SAE Annex E are met. And just the same, as long as the saturates, contaminates and viscosity index are the same the quality remains. GTL was a relatively easy way to obtain a high-quality hydrocracked synthetic Group III, but it isn't the only way.

So is Quaker State 5w40 Euro in limited production or just NOS online for over a year. They don’t list the PDS for it for a long time now.

The last 2 jugs I got about a month ago were also produced in June 2025. Does that mean anything? Couldn't say but it's probably still being made since Walmart is carrying it. Just my .02 cents.

It's still on sale shipped from walmart.com here. Would expect to see some big shifts in SOPUS product lines by this summer though.

Just for kicks I ordered a jug on WM+ (23 bucks). I've been using it in my old Saturn 3.0 (A "Euro" engine from Britain).
Shipped from Bethlehem PA and date code June 2025.

they dropped the Euro-L 5w30 from the shelves awhile back and even the Pennzoil Platinum choices have become slim.
The Euro Lx 0w30 said made in Germany on the back, same with Motormaster euro 0w30. They're the same oil, shell helix ultra. Not sure about the 5w30, but if it too is not made in America, maybe that has something to do with it, tariffs? There was a huge stack of Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40, but the ppultra's seem to be all but gone.
