just changed my oil with quaker state conventional 5w30. quaker state and Mobil are the least expensive majors at walmart . ,would you prefer 1 over the other and why?

I like the Mobil because they are confident their product will last and protect for 5000 miles/6 months or more. Plus a test I saw by a consumer group a while back, showed the Mobil product with a starting TBN of 9 or so, plus a whole bunch of other good additive specs. The QS looked more average, but not a bad oil by any means. Just my preference.
I prefer Mobil.I have been using it for a while now and it seems to do good.
If I recall, back when I was contemplating using Mobil Super Clean 5000 (err...now, it's just Mobil Super I think...?) - I read somewhere on these forums it can "skew" an oil analysis due to the sodium or something contained in the Mobil Super Clean 5000 product....perhaps someone correct me if I'm wrong.
And, at the time, I suspected a water/coolant leak, so strayed away from it for that reason.
P.S. let's not have any of that "QS = sludge" B.S. in relation to ye old Pennsylvanian crude
QS is a decent oil now.....but yea, I'm liking the Mobil Super in that they actually "back" their oil for 5000 miles....whereas Pennzoil is still stuck at 4k....

Mobil Super 5000 is the best SN oil and best 5w30 "convenetional" Ive used in the past decade (regarding smooth quiet operation and good fuel mileage). It got me an immediate 2mpg better than the new Pennzoil Conventional SN 5w30 and continues upwards with better ambient temps car now averages 30MPG with a 4x4 SUV 50/50 HW/city. I dont know the batch numbers of withw oil though i can find out. This stuff varies like wine and beer "vintages".

I like that fact as well(the high TBN) Kinda makes you wonder if you really need a syn for 5k (not counting winter)

I know the older Mobil Clean 5000 was a really good, low volatility oil. I'm not sure if the volatility is still as good on the newer Mobil Super 5000?
I noticed they dropped the older CF diesel spec from the back of the bottle as well.
Just go to the voa section and look at the new SN version. If that compared to the old SM oil floats your boat go for it. Me well lets say I gotta see what this new version is doing in used oil analysis.Little light now it seems.
I use mobil 5000 cuz I have mobil stock and I dont use QS cuz I dont like green. But both are great oils so use which ever you like. My 2003 chev pu just turned to 110000 on mobil 5000, so good enough for me.
My girlfriend's Crown Vic had QS conventional in it when I met her. The oil was changed religiously. I switched it over to mobil clean 5000,the internals are MUCH cleaner then when it had QS.

I never use mobil 5000 yet... I am sure it is good. Right now I am using chevron supreme SN/GF5. I get excellent gas mileage. I think chevron supreme is the best conventional oil right now in the market.. Well I will try mobil 5000 next oil change to see if it good.
If I go back to dino, I'll probably use Havoline or Chevron Supreme. Right now I am running Ultra in both of our daily driven family vehicles. I've used Mobil Clean in the past, not the Super yet. And I'm using Mobil Clean 5w30 in my riding mower and push mower than calls for SAE 30 with no problems. I have a case of Quaker State Advanced Durability that I picked up for $2 a quart so I've got to run through that at some point unless I do an oil change for a friend or something.
I use QS conventional, no problems with it at all, my engine runs very smooth and quiet and I get the same MPG and power with QS as I did on Valvoline conventional. Consumption is the same too, about maybe 1/3 of a quart in 2,000 miles.
I bought 3 cases of QS Advanced Durability 10W30 last year when Advance and Kmart had it on sale. My current stash cost me about $2.16 per quart.
QS is a great oil, has a good quality add pack and areound here it is usually on sale for a good price per quart or as part of an oil and filter deal at one store or another most of the time. I will not use Mobil oil or Mobil gas, but I have my own reasons for it and they don't belong here.

Good question! I want to change the oil in my Focus with the Mobil because it has the best base stock, but I'll probably get QS because it is the current oc. Will check back before I go to the store.

That's interesting, where did you find that out? Given a choice between the QS and Mobil product in this thread I'd lean towards Mobil. But that is JMO.
