QS conv. vs. Mobil 5000

I like SOPUS products and have run QS in some of my vehicles for a long time. The rebates and closeouts, especially on their syns (Quaker State Torque Power and Quaker State Q Horsepower), has always been a great value too. That said, some of my vehicles have seen XOM Supertech almost their entire lives(my wife's Maxx) and when you get down to it, it's more important to change your oil than what you change with.

I have everything from XOM ST to "Auto Extra" (Asland Valvoline clone) in my stash, and ALL of my vehicles have clean engines. I had the valve cover off my 2.5L Jeep trail rig and it looks like a seasoned cast iron pan inside. That goes to show the outstanding conventional oils we have today! Use either of these with confidence.

I have used Mobil 5000. I like that they guarantee it for 5000 miles. And the conventional Mobil 5000 is often available at a very good price.

I saw a commercial on TV about Mobil 5000. I did not know there is a synthetic Mobil 5000. I wonder how it compares with Mobil 1.

It's on the internet so it must be true, right?

Flip a coin, go with whichever is less expensive. Average 5k/6month OCI either will get the job done.

That's interesting, where did you find that out? Given a choice between the QS and Mobil product in this thread I'd lean towards Mobil. But that is JMO.



GF-5 report from Lubrizol states resistance to burn-off/low volatility is a feature of base stock quality. And in the PQIA 5w30 comparative tests E/M motor oils had the best volatility numbers.

I would still like to see the newer SN formula tested on PQIA, and see if it still has the same low volatility.
