A lot of oil vs. oil companies threads have begun popping up and I was wondering if anyone has any preference over these two products?

I`ve used both, have no preference for either, but was wondering what the folks here on BITOG like?

They reduce surface tension of the water in the coolant, giving it more surface area in the cooling system, and most contain some sort of corrosion inhibitor and additives to increase the lubricity of the coolant to save water pumps, AFAIK.

I used Redline Water Wetter in my 5.0 Mustang and it turned the inside of the overflow tank slimy brown.

I used Water Wetter when it first came out in the pink powder form and had no problems.

LT4, you used the gasoline one didn't you? That is a reaction with the long life coolant, if I remember reading correctly. I think that th diesel was recommended for those getting build up.

Only thing weird I`ve noticed about Water Wetter is that when I was in Advance awhile back, some of the bottles` contents were crystal clear pink, while a few were very cloudy/muddy looking. I wonder why? Maybe I`ll go back with Purple Ice when I drain/refill my radiator with fresh coolant again.

My car`s coolant is the traditional green stuff,so I guess there`s no worries there. Still looks brand new (I`ve never completely flushed the system, just drained/refilled).

They're designed to extract money from your wallet. Fairly effective, it seems.

I've had good results with Purple ice with my vehicles. You get better results with it if you use more water vs. coolant at your next flush and fill. Typically 60/40 or 70/30, water to coolant percentage.

I had the same thing happen for the first time in 10 years - this time in my BMW. No weirdo Dexcool or anything in use there. Dealer coolant, which is supposed to be G-48.

i definately think their use really shows is on track cars where any form of anti-freeze is strictly prohibited. they do not ruin the track surface like dumped coolant when a hose or an engine lets go.

I've seen watter wetter in different shades too. I've also noticed differences in appearance with their Fuel system cleaners too. Some are dark brown and others lighter colored. I wonder if that is a quality control problem because no amount of shaking the bottles changes the colors??? But, more than likely it is normal and just different batches mixed on the shelves. I hope anyway.

Hmmmn! Same thing in my '97 GT with the 4.6L. Interesting!

thanks,

I`ll probably go with a bottle of Purple Ice when I drain and refill my radiator here soon.

Been using Purple Ice in the ATV in my sig for about a year and half now. I can definitely say that the machine runs cooler. My cooling fan does not come on nearly as much as it used to. Some reports put Purple Ices effectiveness at 20F to 30F reduction in temps. That is major.

Water Wetter is mostly run in high performance applications whereby folks will run it with distilled water in warmer weather.
