Their bottom line won't be affected even if every BITOG member swears off Purolator...we're too few. Unless a great number of people can prove the tearing issue damaged their engines and Purolator is forced to start buying new ones, they won't do a thing.

I dunno once that internet urban legend ball gets rolling it can be mighty hard to stop. Look how many Fram haters there are to this day, most of whom couldn't even tell you what an ADBV does much less the media endcap. But "they heard" Fram was bad.

Purolator you would think would certainly want to avoid traveling that road.

I agree with you, KCJeep, but maybe Purolator is taking the wrong lesson from this. Fram suffered a lot of bad press and gossip and then internet amplification for years and years, and still were top of the heap. If that's the lesson that Purolator is taking, it may be misguided, since Fram's marketing has always been more vigorous than Purolator's. No matter what has been spouted about Fram filters, they have always been readily available up here, all over the place. Historically, it has taken real effort to find anything other than Fram, particularly when it comes to big retailers.

Purolator's Walmart Canada experiment, however, was obviously a dismal failure. Fram is back there as the exclusive filter supplier, at a significantly higher price than the previous Purolator offerings. That's where Fram can weather the storm.

They will ask you to send the filter to them, but since it's already cut open they will say they can't determine what happened and send you back the cut open filter. The other thing that could happen is you just hearing the sound of "crickets".

Think it through though. What do you expect them to do? Write a statement or put out a recall?

You seem like you already made up your mind, so if you're looking for an admission of guilt or something and that's the satisfaction you demand: (1) won't win you back as a customer anyway and then (2) do even more damage as it just gives ammo to the competitors confirming rumors rather then squashing rumors in the first place.

So it's a no-win situation.

The customer has the power to choose what products he perceives as good quality and value. The companies that produce low quality or over priced products will grow or shrink accordingly. Econ 101.

That may apply to some customers, but not to all. I'd love for the Bosch Premiums to be back the way they're supposed to be and back being readily available at a decent price. I'd jump all over that.

Purolator is the one who decided not to provide something concrete about this issue. Purolator is the one that let their deal with Walmart Canada go south. Purolator is the one that has decided to stand by and watch Fram aggressively market in North America, particularly up here.

As it stands right now, if I want a Bosch Premium, I actually have to order it online or pay NAPA Canada's obscene pricing (they have to order them in, anyhow, so I'd have to wait just as long and pay at least as much). And, I certainly have no idea what date code I'm getting.

Fram markets aggressively here, getting all the shelf space they can. They push hard at improving their image and providing customer service above and beyond what we'd expect.

Purolator throws in the towel on their only big retail agreement in Canada. Aside from filters that are rebranded (i.e. Motorcraft), they're essentially a niche, mail order filter up here. And their customer service response to QC issues is to tell us not to stockpile filters.

The easiest way to lose a customer is to refuse to offer the product at retail level.

Currently I refer to the Pure One oil filter as the : "Yellow Spicy Mustard Can Of Death" which is not to be confused with the previous Fram Orange Can Of Death ...

Is that a Mormon cricket z06? I've seen US 40 west of Craig, Colorado covered with those pest. The BLM has crews out spring, summer and fall trying to kill of as many as possible. Can't get the sea gulls to fly far enough east to gobble them up.

I'll have to check who I emailed. I'm afraid you are going to be right about never hearing back from them.
