Was at the local parts store today to pic up a pureone filter and the guy told me they no longer carry purolator because they have been bought out!! 'Made in China' all over them please refrain from profanity on this board, it is not welcome here

Has anyone else heard this??

Time to go to Wix i guess.

Dang. Didnt' think they'd be made in China after the sell, but it doesn't surprise me. Have to keep my eyes open on the qualiyt.

Presuming it's true . . .

First Delphi and now this. Do we make anything here other than debt?

Hopefully the Mann branded filters sold here will still be European sourced for a little longer. Mann is a more upscale name than Purolator in my opinion. They and Mahle have been in the first echelon of filter makers for many decades. Mann will not slash quality on anything that bears their name. But how they feel about the Purolator brand is anyone's guess.

Perhaps Mann will shift their North American production to the U.S. Purolator facilities and reposition the Purolator brand at the economy end of the market. If that's the case, then we'll just see US-made Manns everywhere. That's not so bad, other than that they might cost more.

But it will be a real tragedy if the U.S. facilities are closed and all Mann/Purolator products come here from either Europe or China.

Time will tell.

Based on what I read in that other thread, I'll be stocking up on P1s on the chance that quality could very well go down. On the chance that quality goes up, which seems just as likely, I'll still have a bunch of perfectly good filters. I'm experimenting with a Wix on one car right now, but want to keep the P1 on the other indefinitely.

However, as I try to plan for the long term, I'll start researching other options.

China and quality may not be associated, but not always for good reasons. I don't see why the Chinese cannot make the filters just as well as anybody else. (This of course has no bearing at all on the question of whether we would rather the filters were made here for other reasons.) Sticking solely to the question of build/materials quality, I think we have to judge different products on a case by case basis. We'll have to wait and see.

Amsoil Ea filters look like a good alternative, but at 3x the price....

But....but....I have to have my Pureones (and still hight quality).

k2xj what parts store was it? The only place around here to get P1 is AA, and Im hoping they will still carry them.

Anyways, Im sure Im jumping the gun here, but what other filter is as good as the P1 for $6? Are the Bosch Premium Oil Filters any good?

Think of how much of a purpose we provide to all those otherwise unneeded people.

What would they do if it wasn't making stuff for us to buy for slips of green paper

will this go for other brands made by the same company such as Motorcraft also?

China and quality : I have to say that this is changing for the better, just as it did with Japan and quality starting in the late 60's. If Purolator production is moved to China, that does not mean in any way that the quality will decrease. It will be up to the new owners of the company to determine what level of quality is maintained. But Chinese manufacturing is perfectly capable of producing good and high quality products. If they said they were moving production to the Phillipines - then you have cause for concern ( I speak from experience).

And remember : Fram filters are made right here. So North American production is no guarantee of quality either.

One of my guitars is an Ibanez (Japanese company) and the particular one I have is made in China. The quality and detail is absolutely outstanding, and the price was low in relative terms. 10 years ago, China was making low end junk in the guitar world. Not any more. If this particular guitar had been built in North America, it would cost at least twice what I paid for it, if not more.

9 times out of 10 that would be the import company's fault. China builds to any quality standard that is asked of them.

Interesting. The L 15436's I picked up at Pep Boys' last month were American made. The ones before that were made in Thailand or some where.

I too pretty much thought that way, but I just put together a bike for my daughter and let me tell you, that frame had more welds on it than my car! I mean, this frame was heavy, nice thick welds on it. I was surprised, I really was.
