Installed 11/01/2015, removed 05/20/2016, 6037 miles. PYB 5W20. I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I thought the date code could be helpful to someone. Classics have worked well for me in the past. Not this OCI. The metal end being loose from the filter doesn't bother me. The cracked black adhesive and torn media does. The anti-drain back valve did it's job. Still pliable and never a start up rattle. I've got one more of these on the shelf and there it will stay.

Yep, I liquidated my P1 and Classic spin-on stash. I kept my stash of FL-400S filters as that particular model seems to hold up. I am curious about those MicroGreens. If I could get them for under $8 a piece in quantity I'd give them a try.

It's a shame, I remember a lot of people had nothing but great things to say about this filter when I first join the community.

Some people still swear by this brand tho and I see so many people attacking the "orange can of death". I don't recall ever seeing a ripped from but I could have missed one or two. I don't really use the orange can but I like the Ultra. Just seems like blind hate to me.

Thanks for posting. I'm glad I offloaded all of them shortly after the problems started to appear here. That picture is one more reason not to reconsider using them. What sucks is a lot of oil change specials still involve Purolator filters.

I'd use an OCOD over a PC any day of the week.

Purolator ought to be ashamed of itself for selling such GARBAGE.

Cracked and tore? Wow.

Funny folks still bash the orange can. It is by far the most popular filter in the US. Went to a car show just last weekend and that was by far the most popular filter on classics and rods. (I am more of a classic "stock" car fan myself.. history is a delicate thing.)

This is confirmation the issue has not been resolved for Purolator Classic L24651 as of date code May 6, 2015.

Assuming this came off the Challenger, I noticed Purolator part finder returns L12222, PL12222 and PBL12222 smaller diameter filters. They may have better reliability.

Fram's part finder returns PH2, TG2, XG2, etc. also a cross for L24651.

WIX part locator returns 57899XP and 57899 instead of 51372 and 51372XP.

I know many members loath the eCores but I just pulled a PF1250 using MS5K 5W30 for 4900 miles and it looked very good.

And yes thanks for the cut and post. It confirms what I need to know.

I used Fram for decades along with Mobil 1 filters prior to joining Bitog. Bitog swung me over the Purolator filters in place of the Frams, but I still stuck with Mobil 1 filters and the better grade Frams. Then Bitog swung me away from Purolator filters a few years back. Honestly I doubt I'll ever use anything Purolator again. I was considering giving them another shot if they got their act together. Now I don't see any upside in doing so even if they did get it together.

This doesn't make sense that it would crack like that.

It almost looks as if it was cut somehow.

Strange.

I paid about $9-10 for a Bosch D+ and everything was good, unable to pry the end caps off with all my strength, which is probably average, they are so well glued. Maybe the $9 was well spent. Although that is just one example, not proof of anything. Here it is June and still very few if any cut open new style Purolators. They should have admitted the problem and recalled all filters. I wouldn't be happy seeing this after an oil change. Just like I think Fram should recall all cartridge filters when someone finds many with a defect.

If not going to use other one, could cut it and show it, see if the caps are bonded etc.

Demar - this pretty much replicates my history as well. Although I used MC filters for years, I never regularly cut any open except a few until joining BITOG. I have since stopped using MC filters too after seeing the one on my PSD. FRAM Ultra, WIX, and Baldwin get the nod these days for oil filters and WIX/NAPA Gold for air filters. I see no reason in the slightest to waste money on Purolator products.

Great pictures-thanks
Very clean presentation too......

2015_PSD - Same story here. I have been using Motorcraft for quite awhile and after hearing all the bad press I decided to cut my first filter. It was a MC FL-820S. It was torn. TBT there may have been a steady stream of torn ones because it took 5 short OCI/FCI to clean up the engine. A WIX 51372 is in use now and have FRAM PH2 and TG2 waiting in the stash. Purolator should discontinue and recall troublesome part numbers.

I will guess the WIX will come out looking good just like the AC Delco did.

If you wait for one of their half off sales, you can. About $15 for 2 and free shipping.

Yours had damage to the end cap as well?

Agreed. I am tempted to make it my desktop picture.
