Some customers do use rebranded Wix filters as their top shelf offerings. Filters on the lower shelves are to the customers specs.
That said, the media that you are refering to is supposed to be hard. It contains a phenolic resin, that when heat cured, hardens the media after the pleating process. It did not crumble or break during use did it? Were the pleats, except around the seam, pretty uniform? The element filtered out what it was designed to filter out, right? Therefore it did the job it was designed to do.
