Hi BITOG Members,

I cross-posted from the Air Filter forum, but wanted to bring the question to be more relevant to the oil filters in question: WIX 57211 vs. NAPA Gold 7211.

(Source of discussion here - https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/wix-42475-air-filter-same-as-mann-c2558-5.385042/)

So I had side-by-side a WIX 57211 and a recently purchased NAPA Gold 7211 oil filter from Fleet Filter. Side-by-side, they look and feel the same. I could not cut the WIX filter because it was not mine. I wish I had taken a photo. Both are made in Poland. I noticed on the NAPA Gold box, it shows Mann-Hummel.

Knowing that NAPA recently switched to a new manufacturer (Premium Guard?) is there a chance that this NAPA Gold 7211 is made exclusively for Fleet Filter? Or is it likely that my local NAPA will carry one that's made by Premium Guard, assuming all old stock is depleted. If yes, are there any tell-tale signs? Looking forward to a great discussion. Thanks in advance!

I'm aware of Napa switching to mostly PG oil filters & not quite certain how much of if any the air filter side has swapped to PG. All that being said I'd wonder if Napa has decided to keep some of M+H manufacturing on some of their cartridge type oil filters. It may be old stock still though if it's a slow mover. Sounds like an excellent quality filter though & I've seen those Polish examples to be just fine.

Ditto.

For many years, I used WIX 57211 and all were made in Poland. Fleet Filter claims they buy their filters that are made by Wix (whatever that means) but at least the product I received from them is re-assuring.

I don't really want to get the NAPA filters directly from my local NAPA. The pricing is three times the price (each) compared to my purchase from Fleet Filter.

I normally buy my replacement parts from Rock Auto, but the cost of shipping is negating any savings (if at all.)

I have read before that NAPA filters are made by Premium Guard, and are from China. They were made my Mann previously, and maybe still. The fact of the matter is that you are dealing with a private label that can switch from supplier to supplier, and have multiple suppliers of the same sku as they see fit. Exclusivity?, I would say not likely. That said, NAPA is an incredibly reliable supplier, and you should be confident that they have sweated the details to provide an excellent filter. WIX is also excellent and would be my first choice, were it not for the price. I’d choose WIX over NAPA. Perhaps you can share your Oci, application and oil grade. The first two of those weigh into your questions.

Absolutely. This is why it is so hard not to buy from the jungle website.

Purchased a case of Napa Gold 7502 from Fleet Filter. They look good, and they're made in the USA!

Napa Gold filters made by Wix should be good value from Fleet Filter. Found this old video on Wix quality. They talk about Poland near the 6:30 mark.
