Project Cobra

Well the boss said no to the candied Brandywine. Not a surprise at all. She is open the the metallic Brandywine. Her thought is this car will attract enough attention without a very head turning paint job.

LOL!! With a vehicle like that the color choice will have zero bearing on the head turning. That beautiful vehicle is nothing but all about drawing attention.

lol, yeah she is not a huge attention kinda girl. She totally understands the pitfalls of this car, but has expressed the desire to not make it over the top. I am more than happy with the Brandywine color. Besides, happy wife, happy life!

I fixed my thermostat coolant leak I believe. I replaced the Dorman housing with a MR Gasket housing. I'm not excited it is chrome, but oh well. I took the little guy next door for a ride and both my boys and FIL. Just go karting around the block. Lot's of looks and mostly friendly waves. I set up my Speedhut Speedometer yesterday and it looks like I have 1.8 miles clocked.

I have made some progress the last few weeks all be it slow with the in-laws in town for a week. I am getting very close to bringing the body home for a first fitment.

I have got my turn signals and hazards sorted out and the LED lights installed. I fixed the rear turn signals and brake lights to ensure both brake lights stay on when a blinker is turned on.

This weekend was painting and instaling the sheetmetal in the trunk, then continuing with the Kilzmat. Getting close to carpet installation.

My goal is to have the car registered and on the road in August.

Well, certainly not something in my wheel house, but I am learning how to install carpet in my MK3. I found carpet that matches at Menards, thank goodness, since some pieces were missing and others were damaged/decayed after 20 years of sitting in a box. Overall I am happy with how it is turning out. I have a few more pieces to do, then wire in my 5psi oil light, then on to the body. Still plugging away for an on the road vehicle in August!

Some more carpet work in the trunk today. I also installed the Breeze hidden hinge mounts. Then I installed the trunk LED light and wired my oil pressure warning light. I think tomrrow is installing the wheel well sheetmetal and then painting it. Next weekend might be the body install. Still trucking to an August on the road plan!

Going with any white stripes?

Will use some sort of rust proofing on the new sheet metal?
the xposed sheetmetal is all painted hammered gray. It is aluminum and for sure this vehicle is a fair weather car only. All the other unpainted aluminum will have carpet on it.

Wheelwell panels painted and mounted. Waiting on some bulb seal for the body. The seal I had with this 2006 MK3 kit were toast. I bought some on Amazon so they will be here tomorow. I hope to put the body on next weekend. Geting close to getting this thing on the road!

FWIW, I put the car in the driveway today to check dB of the exhaust before I try to register. I have bought some Car Chemistry inserts to try and take away the bark. The readings on the passenger side at 10 feet are as follows
850rpm - 80dB
1500rpm - 88dB
2500rpm - 90dB
Reving the motor - 107dB

I'll add the inserts to the out turn of the exhaust before I mount the side pipes after the body is on.
