Mom's new Fusion

As you guys saw in my other thread, my mom's 2000 Grand Marquis LS met an unfortunate end when a driver slammed it while it was innocently parked in front of our house.

Yesterday my mom took delivery of her new 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium AWD EcoBoost. The color is "Dark Side". The car has the 2.0L EcoBoost 4 cylinder that makes 240hp. This is my mom's first brand new car since her 1977 Mustang and 1968 Mustang before that. It has heated/cooled seats, NAV, push button start, MyFordTouch, optional 19" H-spoke wheels with Continental ContiProContact tires, Blind Spot monitoring, and a heated steering wheel.

I went down to the Ford dealer in Glendale on Thursday to get it so she could take delivery here. The MSRP was around 37k and with the D-plan pricing it was around 34k plus it had $1500 in rebates.

She absolutely loves the car. She actually did not see it until Friday when she came to pick it up. She did the "Build and Price" thing online and picked out everything herself based on what she wanted. The color does not photograph well at all, I have never seen a picture do the paint color justice. It is like the older Mystic and Mystichrome paint on the SVT Cobras, but with the metallic part doing the color changing work.

That's got to be the best-looking Fusion I've ever seen. I'd want a cream-colored interior, but otherwise I love it. 240 hp from a 2.0 4-cylinder? Astonishing!

Something tells me, if your mom was a Mustang lover back in th' day, she's gonna be cruisin' with this one. . . .

No it will still be in the street for a bit. I have to keep my 95 Mustang in the driveway since the engine is out of it and I have it registered non-op.

For those wondering, the car will be on a 5K OCI with Motorcraft 5W30 Full Synthetic. It takes 5.7quarts. I wanted her to have the 2.0 over the 1.5 or 1.6 because it has a timing chain, uses 5W30 (we have never owned a Ford that takes 5W20), and has a larger sump. One thing I did notice that was pretty cool was the angle gear/bevel gear/Power Transfer Unit has drain and fill plugs to make servicing easier.

IMO that is one fine looking car. If I had the money I would buy one to replace my wife's Focus.

What kind of camera did you use? Some of them look a little grainy. A dSLR would probably be tack sharp.

The new fusions are really nice cars and the 2.0 EB is a great engine.

ONLY thing I do not care for on them is the electronic parking brake.

I just used my iPhone 4S for the pics. I will try to snap some with a better camera when the weather permits.

I wasn't too thrilled with the electronic parking brake either, but they have not given us any problems so we shall see.

That is a slick looking car, I'm glad that Ford decided to use the European vehicles for the US now. They are way better than anything Dearborn gave us for decades.

I agree about the electronic parking brake, after all the traditional hand brake is much more effective, will be easier to use if you ever do lose brakes, and a dead battery won't cause it to be stuck on! Subaru uses the electric e brake too.

The new fusion is the best driving, quietest car that ford has now. If I was in the market I would buy one.

I really like the Fusion especially with the 2.0 Ecoboost. Does the AWD 2.0 version come with a stick shift?
This could be a 'poor man's' (me) Audi A4.

No stick option with the AWD. The AWD is only available with the Titanium version, which has the most comfortable seats of all the trim levels. It does have flappy paddles which are fun to play with though.

We are in Santa Barbara, but the car will go to Santa Monica to visit a really close friend, well probably the Mustang because this friend has a Lotus that sees track time, and she is the only friend that has permission to roast tire on the Mustang. The AWD is an option on the Titanium, which makes getting it pretty much unobtainium. I prefer AWD over FWD, and she liked the idea of it on the off chance we take it to visit family in New York, Virginia, or Florida.
