Prius wheel cover vs. Civic wheel cover

I know someone who had a pair of them stolen from their Prius that was parked at a commuter transit lot. Given Toyota's pricing, and other unknown factors, there is probably a certain unfulfilled demand for them.

The allow wheels they hide actually look pretty good, so the center cap mod is probably the cheapest and best solution if one isn't concerned about any possible effect on fuel economy.

LOL I suppose "green" and "smug" doesn't necessarily equate to "honest"!

A lot of cars still do. And in quite a few cases, including on our Fusion (also Pontiac G6, Chevy Malibu, etc.), the "wheel covers" actually look like alloys, because the steel rim underneath is shaped in a way that you don't see it because the wheel cover masks it.

Did you learn your lesson?

You bought it because your friend needed a new wheel cover; the friend should pay for it. Is your "friend" a "she"? Is she more than a friend? That changes all the dynamics.

That could be the new meaning of "friends with benefits", she gets free maintenance and Critic gets satisfaction…

...of working on cars.

I guess they could justify it as recycling...

Critic, you have some of the most entertaining threads. I am looking forward to the next thing that goes wrong. I am hooked.

So, I think I've figured out where the cracks came from: the rails at the car wash!

After visiting the express tunnel wash again yesterday (I go there to blow off the big chunks), I had more severe cracks on the two left wheel covers. When driving onto the rails it's just too easy to crack the wheel covers on this car. Why? In that first picture, you'll notice that there is NO LIP on these wheel covers. Any contact will be with the entire face of the wheel cover, which results in a crack.

Well, if I wanted to be perfectly objective, I wouldn't either if I was in her spot. She wasn't aware that returning the item would be the pain so it also isn't fair to her to have to deal with issues beyond her control. Though it would be nice of her to buy it from me, I wasn't expecting her to. Lesson learned: let other people buy their own parts.
