Prius taxi guy, 1 million km

Geez….its only 620,000 miles….whys everyone so excited?

I’ve ridden in a few Prius Taxis in Winnipeg and had my mind opened up on them being great cars. The driver experience is a whole different story. One time I felt I should alert the authorities based on a conversation.

The comment about worrying too much about our cars is very true. I’m not changing though.
Do you visit Winnipeg regularly? If so, I presume for work or family rather than our enchanting winter weather. 😁

Spent a few days in Vancouver BC on my way to Alaska. Got a taxi from the airport to downtown. Toyota Prius C. Just turned over 1 million kilometers on the original powertrain. Car looked and ran quite well. Guy slices through traffic like Earnhardt at Talladega. Between him and his brother and cousin they're running about 14 hours a day 7 days a week. Asked him about maintenance and he said he changes oil every 10,000 km and uses whatever is on sale at Canadian Tire.
He’s probably not a member of BITOG only we make a big deal of oil maintenance lol

I used to work for a company based there. -54 C is the coldest I’ve ever been and it was there. My rental didn’t have a engine heater either.

We had a cold snap a couple of weeks ago, and a friend of my wife had trouble with her car, a 2021 Hyundai Venue. It turned out that the combination of a 3- to 4-year-old battery (greatly undersized at 410 CCA, in my opinion), in conjunction with no block heater, made for a dead car at -31°C.

And how many people do you know who have put that many miles on a car?
I know only one - about 110k more than that on a MB diesel running M1 0W40 in the EU …
Next closest was BiL’s Chevy 1500 LT at +400k on Mobil bulk semi and jobber oil filters …

Did he mention whether he used full synthetic or conventional oil?

No but my gut feeling was he was using the cheapest stuff on the shelf. I did notice it had some dubious looking (probably) Chinese tires.
600,000 miles on the cheapest oil and filter available at Canadien Tire with 6,000 mile OCI.
Proof that oil and filter choices aren't really relevant to a car's longevity.
