Thread 'Virgin Hengst H97W07 C&P - Toyota 90915-YZZN1 equivalent'

Up on the workbench today is a Hengst H97W07, which Hengst lists as a cross for Toyota 90915-YZZN1. I am cutting a slew of filters to compare to the Wix WL10332 that I was thoroughly disappointed with for a variety of reasons, but primarily, poorly formed louvers.

The Hengst H97W07 is 2.89 in (73.5 mm) tall which taller than the Toyota 90915-YZZN1 and the Wix WL10332 by 1/4" on the Wix and 3/16" over the Toyota.

The can feels exceptionally well made, and the box is labeled MADE IN POLAND, Overall the filter weighs 231.0 g. Baseplate has 8 punched holes with no evidence of any burrs on...

The construction is nice. The filter media isn't.

Good price, but there are better filters for this application from both Fleetguard and Donaldson, though you'll pay for them.

What do you mean, what is it supposed to look like? .. This is a total basic filter so what is unusual about that ??

The basic PG filter looks pretty much like all the Euro's.

Well, actually, I believe American factories are more than capable. What they cannot do is produce quality such as this at an ultra low price. Just like almost every consumer product category out there.

Yeah, and I’m more interested in tight construction … and coming out very similar to how they went in …
For example, not sure why they changed the fiber end e-core - that could not have been an expensive build to start with …

When the media in a 'total basic' $4 Fram filter looks like this, the $3 PrimeGuard is lacking.

Problem is Fram can’t build a filter without a defect currently. I’ll take a well built 95%@20 basic PG over a in a can marked 99%@20 any day.
