a month ago we were at around $3.37 in central Indiana

two weeks ago it jumped up to $3.99

within a week it dropped to $3.77

Yesterday it rocketed back to $3.99

Today is went for the first time in the state of Indiana straight to $4.25.9 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

A news reporter on the radio made comment that there was nothing going on to cause this spike, but there were rumors of a refinery problems (or something) up in the Chicago area and the jump in price was due to this rumor (from the speculators stand point)..

So a 88 cent jump in price in just two weeks for no true good reason..

ANYONE HAVE A CLUE ?

I dont know how it is in the other states but Indiana is like a YO-YO ! every two weeks it bounces up and down by 15-25 cents and we all try and fill up while its trending down.. but ive never seen gas prices do this (other than on 9.11) when all that gouging took place.

$4.25? Ouch. Wonder if that means it'll go up here--just filled up the truck at $3.43.
 
Around Columbus, I'll drive by the same gas station twice in a half hour and it's completely different both times, how could this be? I've been crying because it's $3.85 here, $4.25?

its always soemthing for them to jack up the price. there is plenty of fuel out there according to the market watchers.

They know we will buy it regaurdless of price.
 
In the Lansing MI area we just jumped to $4.29 BTW I was empty so my gas bill on the way home from work was over $100 USD, but I am not complaining to much because I bought this truck to haul big loads over long distances. Fuel economy was a distance 2nd or 3rd place in my decision when buying my vehicle.

I can't complain to much but I wish someone would make a 420 HP V8 engine that got 46 MPG. ;-)
 
I dunno. The gas station I fill up at has been at $3.52 for the past month or two, plus the 10c/gallon off I get using cumberland farms smartpay app, so I'm actually not going to complain.

Then gas would be 9.50 USD a gallon. I have not checked for last year but the U.S. was consuming less gasoline each year but prices did reflect this.

The rule of supply and demand is not applicable to gasoline.

Actually, No...(and yes) when the price hikes like this i refuse to get my guzzlers out of the garage. I drive less, take less trips, plan my driving out with stops, etc, etc,etc, Im much more carefull with my fuel consumption.. When i have no choice and have to drive (like to work) i get on the two wheelers to maximize fuel if the weather will permit me.. When the price flexes down then i will drive the guzzlers.. if it stays up i just wont fill up, i will buy a little at a time $10 here $20 there. whe it dips fill it up. Its not a political statement, its just me penny pinching.

Between my wife and i we make a good living, but that certainly does not mean i just want to throw it in the tank.
 
I do not care what people say in regards to the price of gas. The price doesn't follow conventional economic wisdom, it just doesn't. The pricing of gas is a very complicated thing and I certainly haven't even scratched the surface of understanding it. I will say, that comparatively, even at $4.25 a gallon gas in the US is very cheap.

It's funny how when a refinery has a "problem", prices jump up immediately, and when refineries have NO problem for years then the prices never seem to make it back down.

It's funny how every summer, prices go up, ostensibly for demand. But then in winter, they never go back down because "required additives in winter cost more than summer mixtures".

Add to these oil industry gouges the fact that oil speculators on the stock market cause fluctuations.

Don't let them fool you, Big Oil is making money hand over fist. How else could they pay thousands of laborers in the North Dakota oil fields (near Williston) over 100k per year?
 
$3.44 at an Indian Tribe gas station.

Not much you can do except drive a fuel efficient vehicle.

And we are EXPORTING gasoline, diesel fuel and ethanol.
Its not the "U.S.A." fuel demand, its the global demand.
Last I knew 40% of Alaska oil makes a right turn at Oregon straight to Japan.
