Press on Regardless Rally
September 10 & 11, 2004
Gaylord, Michigan

Come and join us for the 56th running of the oldest continuously run rally in North America. From its first presentation in 1949, POR has been a unique event. Over the years it has gone from a tour in the country, to a “brisk” 24 hour TSD event and then to a closed road performance event patterned after the European championship rallies. After several years as a FIA listed event, it became the first World Rally Championship Rally in the United States in 1972. When SCCA started the Pro Rally series, it joined that series and was generally considered not only the oldest but also the longest, toughest and meanest event on the schedule. In 1994, it became evident to the Detroit Region that organizing a Pro Rally 500 miles away from your home was not practical. At that time, POR was returned closer to its roots, and became a TSD event once again.

This year’s event will be a two-day, 550-mile rally conducted to the 2004 SCCA Tour Rally Rules. The headquarters will again be in Gaylord to allow us to be in a central location to the better roads of past POR events. Speeds will be brisk, the same as last year. All controls will be open controls. Work/Run may be used if there is a shortage of workers. Most of the roads in the timed portions of the event will be unpaved. In the tradition of POR, some two-track roads will be used. The roads will not be car breakers, but cars with low ground clearance or spoilers may bottom out occasionally. Once again this year will be a Saturday only event, SPOR (Second Part Of Rally), to be run concurrently with the second day of POR. Cars will be numbered beginning where POR numbering ends with a 5 car gap between events.

Please note that the dates for this years POR has moved back to the normal weekend, based on cancellation of the Cadillac Forest Rally.
