Pre-2010 Big Rigs Banned From California Roads

so is there no way around this?
separate the transportation part of your company and make it out of state?
might be interesting the loopholes they find.

This needs to stop. Nobody wins with "bans" "mandated phase outs" The cult is bringing over from power generation to EV's.... all they bring is mandates and bans. No mention of "free market" and the last I checked Tesla was doing just fine with all the rebates they have received. Let the market decide, not some bureaucracy!

It’s not just big rigs, it’s anything larger than a 1ton pickup. I’ve had to sell an F-450 and a 2009 F-650 to stay in compliance. A new F-650 crane service body truck is $200k. There was nothing wrong with the old truck except it didn’t have current emissions equipment.

I also have to replace a $200k forklift because it isn’t tier 4. We use it a couple hrs a week.

I suspect this may push more of the economy under ground. I’ll bet there are plenty of trucks working illegally and without insurance. The cop’s have to run numbers on up to 70,000 trucks and take the time to stop them and call a tow truck large enough to tow them, holding up traffic on the interstate. Heck, you could probably give them a new paint job and carry on. I suppose the realities of weigh scales and such would be tough to get by.

The top 15 most polluted cities in the world are all in Asia. India, China, Pakistan among others. If other countries in the world had done as much as the USA and Western Europe in reducing pollution, everybody on the planet would be farting Butterflies and Unicorns!
And/or starving to death. It's nice to live in a country with the means to worry about things like this

CA:

In short, these vehicles will have to follow California’s emissions standards and hold an annual certificate from CARB validating their vehicle meets these standards. This regulation will apply no matter where the vehicle was registered, according to Camper Report.

So it sounds like transfers will have to be made at the borders.

CA can do as they please. I get complaining if you live there and have an interest in aging semi. Not sure why raise your blood pressure over something out your local area and out of your control.

I always wonder this. I read dumb stuff on the news all the time, and give one whole harumph and think about how dumb it sounds for a bit, and then move on with my life.

Besides, this is CA. They wrote the book on emissions reduction. Why would anyone complain about something that is par for the course, to be expected, and, most importantly…planned for so long ago, that if you didn’t like it or couldn‘t live with it, you had a decade to pack your crap and move somewhere else.

Personally, I’m happy we have clean air, water and such. For anyone thinking the free market will dictate how clean things need to be, that seems like a pipe dream. Most people simply want to survive and spend as little as possible. If company A can offer the same product as company B for cheaper, but the consequence is more pollution, you can bet your butt that many people will either not think about it and choose the cheaper option or come to the conclusion that they simply can’t afford to pay more for a cleaner option that doesn’t have immediate, tangible consequences.

Example: if we took a poll of everyone, and even if we broke it down to just the environmentally conservative people, I’d be surprised if the majority of them even knew they could pay more money to a different energy supplier that used more renewable energy (assuming it’s an option for you). I consider myself environmentally conscious, but my own bill is too high? I’m not willing to pay more at this moment for cleaner energy. It’s just not feasible for a lot of people. Extrapolate that one concept to everywhere and I can reasonably conclude that letting the free market decide will mostly fatten the pockets of the rich even more and it’s a distinct possibility that it will be an environmental disaster.

Finally, if you want to use the free market argument: CA has a HUGE economy. If you want to sell your stuff elsewhere and give up that markrt because you either have to or want to, do it. You can complain, that’s fine, but I wont take you seriously (in general, not one individual person) if that’s all you do, but don’t do anything practical about it. Move to some poor state with little opportunity, cheap coal electric power, and cheap labor. That’s your decision.

Note: member(s) in this thread have mentioned “free market”. This is a general disagreement and not a personal attack. I’m perfectly fine with having a conversation about this with someone who disagrees with me. It‘s everyone’s right to be mad at what they want. If it bothered me I can ignore it, just like those who are actually enraged should do. Of this doesn’t personally affect you, and you’re enraged, then I believe you have issues and should seek help. I don’t even know what to think of those who get mad about OPINIONS or randos that has no affect on them, such as on web forums and social media. Passionate? That’s fine. Going insane on social media? Nope.

Ya this has been going on for a long time now. All our older but good trucks had to get parked. And it just so happens that we can't keep the compliant ones running.

C.A.R.B. gets to overstep their bounds and since the folks running the state agree with them it's ok.

Btw California banned the old 2 stroke green leakers back in the 90's.
Chris were you in California in the 1960s? Or do I have to explain to everyone for like the third time ( previous threads) how miserable the air was then?
