Anyone on BITOG know what the PQIA plans for its next analysis progtram? Love their site and efforts but it seems very little if anything has happened for months. Are they still a viable concern?

There have been some delays with the oil testing lab, but a new series of results will be posted soon.

2011 will bring a major increase in activity.

That's great! So will 2011 bring any "synthetic" activity?????

Actually, a new set of results is scheduled to be released this week. Not synthetics this time, but I will discuss with PQIA. Bear in mind that mineral oils represent over 90% of the market.

Wow, when you say over 90% of the market do you mean that over 90% of supplied oil is mineral or over 90% of purchased oil is mineral? If its the latter I just assumed it would be 75-80%, over 90% is a shock to me.

There are various surveys, studies, and estimates, but most put the market share for full synthetic motor oil in the USA at less than 10%. Supplied and purchased have to equal out over time.

Sounds about right.
Of the 10% syn, probably half of that is purchased by those on here.
Of the 5% of national oil sales that are syn bought by BITOG members, about half are stashed.
So, about 2.5% of the national syn oil market is held in the garages of BITOG memebers.
Ya think?

Hmmm, let's see, 33,873 BITOG members. If every one of them used synthetic oil exclusively at 10 quarts/year, that would be 84,683 gallons. Total USA PCMO oil consumption is about 600 million gallons/year, so at 10% share for synthetics this equals 60 million gallons of synthetic oil. Therefore all BITOGers using synthetic would amount to about 0.14% of the synthetic oil usage in the USA.

Just out of curiosity, how much does it cost you guys to test a batch of oil on average?

Thanks for the heads-up Tom. That was a nice letter from Pinnacle too. Were they the manufacturer for O'Reilly 5w30 that fell out of spec?

No, Pinnacle is the manufacturer of the Sheetz oil, which was also out of spec on NOACK.
